I'm wondering with the huge influx of Saharan dust if the NHC is going to be dropping their predicted number of storms for the season?

Unlikely. This happens every single year. One of the main reasons why this particular outbreak is this large is due to stronger than normal waves provoking the SAL.

Last season didn't even have the D storm until almost September, and we ended with 18.

Currently, the next storm is the 5th named storm, and it is July 1st.

Not even mid-month yet and we're sitting at two named storms :double: At this point, I'd say that those guessing 3 or even four are sitting pretty

I think your "3" is going to be the magic number.

Well, we will see. We still have quite a bit of ample time, three weeks left in the month, and I fully anticipate the MDR to start getting cranked up out there for development later this month. A fourth named storm in the month is quite possible.

With Edouard, Fay, and 7, plus 91L and the wave that the models are liking maybe 6-8 days from now, it looks like my recklessly aggressive prediction of 5 might have a chance after all. :sun:

Well it is quite fair for me to say that what I mentioned earlier in the month just may be proven correct after all! 8-)

There is a chance that we may even see a fifth named storm for the month out in the MDR, as a very strong wave behind Gonzalo, is coming on its heels in the next few days. The models are latching onto it to develop.
