Re: Texas Spring 2020
Mesoscale Discussion 0553
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0953 PM CDT Thu May 07 2020
Areas affected...Portions of north central Texas
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 172...
Valid 080253Z - 080400Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 172
continues.
SUMMARY...The ongoing supercell is expected to gradually weaken by
04Z. Large to very large hail is still ongoing.
DISCUSSION...The long-track supercell which has dropped very large
hail across a long swath from near Childress to areas just west of
the metroplex is still ongoing with golfball to baseball hail
recently reported in Jack County. WoFS has been consistently
weakening this storm considerably across Parker County for several
runs. Given the extreme capping inversion seen on the 00Z FWD
sounding, it seems unlikely this supercell will continue much
longer. However, intense and long-lived supercells with strong
internal pressure perturbations such as this have been known to
persist well into a capped/stable airmass. Therefore, while the very
large hail is expected to wane by the time the supercell enters
Tarrant county, it is certainly possible it may last 1 or 2 counties
farther east than anticipated which would impact at least portions
of the the western metroplex. Therefore, Tarrant county has been
added to severe watch 172.

Sure seems like DFW has a cap a lot while places just a county away don’t.
Very solid lightning far away with this.

The wife is mad that I didn't gather her outdoor pillows and now one is missing. Also, my bbq pit cover blew out of the backyard, over the fence, over the house, across the street, and into the empty lot across the street lol

a wind advisory just popped up
...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM CDT FRIDAY...
* WHAT...Brief strong winds 30 to 40 mph with some gusts to 50
mph.
this is better wind than I've seen in any of these "storms" lately. I get there's supposed to be wind in a storm like this but this is different wind

Not long ago one morning hail core was over DFW (particularly northern Tarrant county) and not much where else, I don't think that is it. Supercells actually effect a very small area relative to land size. Any given storm may only effect parts of a county and them some counties adjacent to it's path. Mostly luck and timing.

Once again, another 70% chance of rain and not a single drop. This is getting old.

The current line is expanding westward. A gorgeous sky with the clouds matched with the sunrise. Big storms east of the Metroplex.

Maybe a weak hail spike? It looks like it moves at the same pace as the storm, almost 180 degrees (maybe more like ~150 degrees) across from the storm relative to the FWS radar site.
