Haiyan actual max (1 min) wind speed ?

#1 Postby Dean_175 » Sun Feb 09, 2020 4:59 am

As you probably know, no recon is performed- its max (1 min) intensity is currently officially recorded as 195 mph due to estimate via satellite/Dvorak T numbers at 195 mph. What would you think the likely actual range of speeds would be ? Based on data from Shimada et al. (originally posted in the Discussion of Intense Tropical Cyclones thread here), 175 kt seems like a reasonable initial estimate.

I'd say 185 kt personally, based on comparable satellite pictures and Recon data from Megi (2010) and Patricia (2015), +/- 10 kt. However, we will never know for sure.
