It was minimal but it was enough to be a shift

Does that change anything for the metroplex

If you live in Ft Worth/west then maybe. That area may end up seeing a light amount of sleet/snow mix late instead of being completely shut out.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO
6 PM CST WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...Sleet and freezing rain expected. Some snow is also
possible. Total sleet and snow accumulations of up to one inch
and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch possible.

* WHERE...Locations along and west of a Hamilton to Fort Worth to
Sherman line.

* WHEN...From midnight tonight to 6 PM CST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slick road conditions, particularly bridges
and overpasses. The hazardous conditions could impact the
morning commute.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Below-freezing temperatures could allow
for refreezing on roadways through Wednesday night.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Slow down and use caution while driving. Bridges and overpasses
will be the first places that icy spots will develop. Do not slam
on the brakes when approaching an icy bridge or overpass. Instead,
maintain a constant safe speed and coast across the ice. If you
start to slide or skid, calmly steer in the direction of the skid
to straighten the vehicle out and regain control.

The latest road conditions for Texas can be found at
drivetexas.org.

Isn't this a kick in the nuts? This might go down as the biggest borderline teases ever. Oh well it's better than the 80 we had a couple days ago, to put it in perspective.

As for Austin, the Euro and RGEM are the only two models of which I am aware showing any snow/sleet/ice accumulating here. They prog wintry mix falling tomorrow evening/night. South Texas Storms says the latter has been solid lately so let's hope he's right!

Every other model as well as the Grey Goose-swilling meteorologists at the Portastorm Weather Center are serving a poo-poo platter to those Austin-area folks wanting to dine at the winter weather event table.

Yep those are 2 pretty good models to have in your camp! Unfortunately forecast confidence is quite low across central TX for tomorrow night. And regardless I'm not expecting much in the way, if any, accumulations. But we'll keep hoping! As we all know, sometimes disturbances coming out of Mexico surprise us.

Hope you see a few flakes or sleet pellets there tomorrow evening, Portastorm. I suppose it's possible. We'll just enjoy the useless cold here in Houston.

Bring someone to have a snowball fight with. Otherwise, you'll get tired of throwing them straight up as you fight with yourself.

Temperatures never rose like they were projected to. Stayed at 45 for my area. Does this mean we could anticipate much colder temperatures overnight or not much change?

Track the dew point, get those down to 29-30 range before precip moves through and it’s game on

all we need is 32F at the surface to create a big freaking mess in the morning for Tarrant, Denton, Parker counties. if the the warm nose lifts out sooner the transition to sleet/snow will be quicker and FTW may get a nice dusting of snow .25" or less.

That is one thing to watch but, as 57 pointed out, this isn't a particularly cold air mass. The freezing line hasn't moved much today, and I like to see it making steady progress southward. The 18z 3k NAM, RGEM and 12 TX Tech do still offer some thin hopes for DFW. All have marginal temps and it wouldn't take much to get the surface to freezing but warm air aloft will be hard to overcome unless deeper cold filters in faster.

I still see the NWS FTW forecasting a low of 31F over night and I high tomorrow of 33F, all we are talking about a 1-2 degrees which can happen long as the warm nose craps out before daybreak.

KXAS just went warmer with nothing below freezing in the morning for DFW and a high near 37. Frustrating to say the least. Just have to wait and see. I will be up at 3:30 so I will look at radar and give a ground report before driving to work.

This whole thing seems like a snow bust for DFW but I hope I’m wrong

Looking ahead, the Euro Weeklies show basically the same pattern well into March. While that isn't great news it gives N. Texas another 4 or 5 weeks to pull off another event similar to this one.

Maybe place all the snow a little farther south to Bell County and I won’t need any more of winter precipitation for another 10 years

Wish this was expanded SE but it's still a very impressive map for any winter!

Tomorrow evening is actually looking more amd more likely to get some sleet/snow as the system moves out. Who knows, get a couple quick bursts of snow and maybe a dusting. Something to keep an eye on.
