I have a bet with a friend of mine. It will get below 30F at my station in Sugar Land 3 times this season. Putting alot of faith in a -EPO environment. It was a cold end to October, cold half of November, based off of this we, we said December would be warm. Have to be patient folks!

A lot of people here want to live in a vacuum. Because it got cold last November and was mild the rest of the season, it must be that way this year too. I can point to some analogs where November was freezing, December was mild and January/February turned in some doozies. We had one in 2014-2015. There was 2008 or 2009 (can't recall which year), there was 2003 then the infamous late 70s and mid 80s.
Our NPAC is much more favorable and the background state is more favorable. Coupled with a 'non-warm' region 1+2, and a Pacific that is progressing towards our cold phases, I think its fairly safe to see some Arctic air in January and the first part of February.

Something to watch in the long range. Our source region is frigid and -30s and -40s are slipping into Montana.

We gotta watch for potential snow Friday night into Saturday with the upper low staying tightly closed. These systems can really over produce.

Snow looks unlikely, but this system being deeper will now help to keep temperatures chilly across much of the state through the weekend. A big change from a few days ago when a warming trend was expected to begin. That now looks to hold off until next week, and wxman57's warm Christmas prediction doesn't look very warm anymore. I'm expecting seasonal temperatures for Christmas across much of Texas.
Hopefully parched south central TX can get some much needed rain from this system...our chances are increasing!

It'll be interesting but if we get sub 0C at 850mb which is very possible then we def could see snow. Surface would likely start in the low 40s to high 30s but would likely wet bulb down into the upper 30s.

Made it down to 27F this morning with a WC of 20F.
Keep the faith my winter loving fools, the pendulum will swing the other way, and we shall all rejoice in the winter games of 2020.
Remember the Dallas Stars are hosting the Winter Classic @ the Cotton Bowl, so it will get cold.

Yeah this might disrupt our plans to travel up to DC on Sunday. Models are keeping the storm suppressed, but unfortunately it's over where we need to start our drive lol.

22 in Hideaway. Thankfully cold seems much easier to get this season than last so when the pattern turns in a couple weeks we should be in good shape. But I agree with others in that we need rain this winter.
