Current temp in Richardson...

Also recorded .41 of rain. BTW, what a great time for the KFWS radar site to be down.

As I posted this I dropped another degree. Once again, agonizingly close.

HRRR has a large warm nose, which is restri ting any snow at all. SPC is showing the 850 line in OK. About 3C in Ntx. Chances are shrinking by the hour, still keeping my fingers crossed for you guys.

Some things never change :spam:

Quick update concerning snow potential through the next few hours.
The 12Z FWD sounding sampled +5.8C at 900 mb which is considerably
warmer than previous runs of the HRRR/RAP guidance for this time.

Beautiful snow lighting up the radar in Sherman... Sadly, nothing is hitting the ground

It seems for us that the cold has to be at least somewhat in place beforehand and then a disturbance happens by - like in 2010. These front attempts are always busting badly. It's still early... :ggreen:

We had a blip of slightly -PNA which allowed for this possibility but we really need a a more solid -PNA so we can get a true Baja low that lags behind the initial front more significantly. Our best snows usually are at the end of a cold outbreak not the beginning. The ideal scenario it seems is -EPO and -PNA some -NAO is nice to slow things down also. We get a big Arctic front down the Plains with the SW portion diving into NW Mexico and cutting off. A couple NW flow clippers combined with an active STJ over the following 48 hours keeps things cold and wet. Then the Baja low ejects over the state reinforcing the cold at the upper levels and providing strong forcing to wring out the moisture. This set-up can bring a multi day snow event with the heaviest coming at the end. The worst part of this setup is if the -PNA doesn't relax then it sets up a prolonged overrunning event which means more ice than snow until the cold modifies enough.

Not sure how legitimate that is. I’ve been driving out about the northern burbs for a little bit this morning and I’m standing outside looking at the sky in Carrollton and see nothing to prove it’s doing anything anywhere

Saw a couple reports on FB also. I imagine it is just isolated and very brief. Just too warm at the mid levels.

The radar looks so nice with all the rain what a shame nothing’s coming from it.

Technically not a bust, nws never said this was going to be a big snow event. Mixed precip was predicted, dew point in Keller is currently 33 degrees. This all depended on wet bulbing. Always been a very fickle thing.

Okay it wasn’t really a bust until this morning’s forecast. Chances of snow showed 70% this morning. Almost simultaneously the warmer temps aloft were noted in the discussion update. So I retract what I mentioned last night about this event not counting as a bust.

There are some bright returns showing up south of Abilene moving NE so that is either heavier precip or frozen precip. Maybe DFW can get lucky later on this morning from that.

Just depends on if it’s actually reaching the ground at this point. There are still some returns going on over north DFW that have been there since 7 A.M. but very little if none have produced anything. That could very well change though
