Low-level WV imagery showing convection firing on a very sharp dry line.
Mid-level moist air over riding very dry boundary-layer air. This creates a very intense updraft or lapse-rate.
The kicker is that is under a UL High and its advecting in massive amounts of nearly max moist GOM air.
A nearly "perfect" storm setup.

Some areas Southwest of Beaumont have already received over 20" of rain over the last 24 hours. With another 10 to 15 on top of that this may be getting close to Harvey rainfall totals for some areas. Unless I'm looking at something wrong.

Convection expanding. Cloud tops getting colder.
Massive amounts of lightning from the uplift of LL dry air.
Its strengthening.

It's bad. Friends and many homes flooding. Many high water rescues throughout the area. Cars stalled out. Supposedly all I-10 exits are impassable in Beaumont. The entrance/exit to my sub-division is flooded. Many people trapped in neighborhoods, not just mine. Schools canceled. People on "waiting lists" for rescues, per Facebook. And it's STILL pouring! Unreal. Just 2 years later.

Thanks, sf. Miss ya!

My house is ok as of now, but I also thought that before we flooded in Harvey. It just needs to stop. And many people who somehow didn't flood during Harvey, have already flooded. Different setup, I know.

Haven't slept a wink.

It’s back-building past College Station. This is getting crazier by the minute.

Looks like it is trying to pull moisture out of the Gulf of Tehuantepec thru the isthmus of Tehuantepec.
Same like Harvey.

I don't see this band moving anywhere anytime soon unfortunately. Particularly the Beaumont area... You're a long way from any forseeable dry slot right now.

I saw a Twitter post reminding people not to go into their attics unless they can bring an axe or other tool to save themselves from becoming trapped by floodwater.

A truly awful scenario has unfolded. It goes to show you do not need an intense tropical cyclone to cause severe damage and life-threatening conditions.

The training band just keeps expanding back past Conroe toward College Station, and the southern/southwestern part of the rain mass keeps filling in east and southeast of Houston moving toward Winnie and Port Arthur. The heavy rain will continue at least 3 or 4 more hours...
