This is really one impressive looking TS, wow, if nothing inhibits Jerry, this guy may take off and become quite a beast. Jerry certainly has that 'look'. Such a dense CDO!

Really? They actually put a name on the lists in honor of a particular person and admitted it? Are there any other names that have been put on the lists in honor of specific meteorologists? Is there any place to find out this information?

They're not technically supposed to represent anyone in particular, but there is probably a few other ones out there that share a name with someone those who made the lists know personally. Perhaps the most famous one is a storm named after John Hope's daughter.

With that track record...wouldn't think they'd want to do it again (daughter I assume was named Camille)

Gilbert was famously named after Gil Clark (who was actually in charge of coming up with the list of names!) and Roxanne was named after Gil's daughter.

Being that the buoy is reporting a pure 270deg wind @1830z at 51W. I would say the surface center was at least 50.8 at 18z.

From 15z forecast:
FORECAST VALID 19/0000Z 15.3N 51.0W...missed by half a degree

The west winds at the buoy are very weak. They are probably more related to an outflow boundary. I can't see any way the center is north of the buoy at the time of that observation... Watch for the pressure to continue to fall and winds to pick up and correct the direction.
