Now I'm wondering if "did he or didn't he make landfall" is going to be another ongoing debate. (Like "should this or should this not have been named/upgraded?")

Also interesting to see the water recede 1-2 feet in the 6 hours before the storm arrived. I didn't know storm surges did that.

Think about the wind directions. When the storm was down near Wilmington, the winds at Hatteras would have been from the east which would blow water away from the sound side gauge. Now with the center passing to the east of the sound, the winds are blowing water onto the shore from Pamlico Sound.

I, for one, am going to take the bold stance that this storm deserved to be named/upgraded

Just like Jon Snow..."I know nothing" except what I know, and most of what I know is gathered by the fine people of the NHC

17 mph seems like a full out sprint after this thing has crawled along for 5 days.

It's really late, but I finally got around to creating a higher quality radar loop of Dorian through the Bahamas.

Seeing info that would suggest NHC is going to retract landfall in Hatteras.

It'll probably be made quietly during the tcr. By the long existing standards, it didn't make landfall over the cape.

What's always amazed me about Ocracoke is how many homes are at ground level. Good for resisting winds, nestled in the live oaks, but being at least 5 feet up on stilts would really help come these surges.

That said, this is a pretty regular occurance in Hatteras and Ocracoke. It will become more so with the impending drowning of the NC Coast...

From a SEVA perspective Matthew was way worse than this. Some trees down, some power outages, and flooding on par with a moderate Nor’easter. Turned out to be a glancing blow for us. Obx is dealing with some major flooding right now though.

Glad to hear it wasn't too bad in your area.

Wow, Dorian has the look of a Cat 2 if not Cat 3 hurricane again just that fast!

This storm does not want to die. The Lyrics from Fame keep going through my head...
I wanna live forever, you will remember my name....(or something like that)
