That’s going to suck for the beaches. The one saving grace for downtown Wilmington is that it sits on a relatively high bluff that should protect it from the surge

The Cape Fear river is right there. Downtown will flood. It always does.

It wasn't supposed to by this point.
It was supposed to be weakening however, and looked like it was on a track to do just that a few hours ago.

I guess it depends on what you're drawing from. Models for days have shown Cat 2/Cat 3 system just off the GA and Carolina coasts at times stronger at times weaker - depending on what you went with. It's a feisty storm for sure . What' s not feisty is that red car from earlier. It's about to get flipped or washed out.

Do we know that's a current pic? Looks like a very sedate sea state for the eye of a hurricane. One would think the seas should be about...20 or so feet higher..depending on the water depth

It's the mythical Hydra. Cut off its head and two grow back in its place.

The flag name this time around is Steve. Important information. Kevin, or what was left of Kevin, was retired.

The Frying pan cam....that one adds up...with a wind and ocean state that correlate to a nearby cane. Hopefully this one keeps working as Dorian draws nearer

Good structure and presentation...Dorian is a Devil and the only thing it didn't do was track up the shoreline...

This is relatively common on the Eastern seaboard especially when the storms are working with such warm SSTs near the coast.

Usually the storms that come through our area (Va. Beach) are either starting to fall apart from dry air entrainment or making an extratropical transition. It's actually extremely rare for us to encounter a tropical system that continues to strengthen on approach.

Hard rain at Emerald Isle. Had a water spout this morning around 9. Lots of damage no one was seriously hurt. We are awaiting the major portion of the storm tonight.

Dorian continues to exceed expectations. I thought he was toast when he started moving north and sucking in dry air just east of me in south Florida. After a week and a half of watching this thing, I'm coming to expect the unexpected.
He's a tenacious storm.

Those damage pics...looked like a significant tornadic event. Stay safe and check in when you can.

It’s like this storm is immortal or something.
