Gulf system west of Dorian (Is INVEST 93L)

#1 Postby CrazyC83 » Sat Aug 31, 2019 12:46 am

NHC has just put a mention on this, and with no thread I decided to create one.

2. Disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the southeastern Gulf
of Mexico are associated with a broad area of low pressure. Some
slow development of this system is possible during the next several
days while it moves generally westward across the southern and
southwestern Gulf of Mexico at 5 to 10 mph.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent.

A couple of the models sniffed out this feature a day or so ago. I'm curious if it will have any impact on Dorians track.

The ICON, consistently the farthest west, develops this the most. It's possible. I'd think about sending a plane to the Gulf to help solve that too in case an additional weakness opens.

Can't imagine this having much of an impact on Dorian... but I can see this being something that does nothing for a while and then gets it's act together quickly in the western gulf.

Should be 92L soon (assuming the Cape Verde system becomes 91L) at this rate.

Kind of surprised neither one is an invest.

So I heard CMC has been doing a great job so far this season, so I should be worry about this thing? rain is really needed here in Monterrey but in Alex or Gilbert amount would be a disaster

Little too early to tell. If it develops then yes possible worries if it doesn't the rain will be from Corpus Christi south toward you. Try Tropical Tidbits and the NHC for some good data.

A broad area of low pressure located over the south-central Gulf of
Mexico continues to produce a minimal amount of showers and
thunderstorms. Some gradual development of this system is possible
during the next few days while it moves slowly westward across the
southern and southwestern Gulf of Mexico toward the coast of Mexico.

Another broad area of low pressure is located over the south-central
Gulf of Mexico. This disturbance is producing limited and
disorganized shower activity. Some gradual development of this
system is possible during the next few days while it moves slowly
westward across the southern and southwestern Gulf of Mexico toward
the coast of Mexico.

They don't need to wait for advisories to call an Invest. But I wonder if this is messing with the Dorian track? It's not much of a weakness, but it's one.

Yeah that's the only reason I noticed the system was organizing. It seems like they're synergistically amplifying each other at this point.

This buoy is showing a stiff NE wind. Maybe it's consolidating more toward the north and S TX would receive some welcomed rain.
