Was looking at analogs we liked coming into this winter. So far, it's looking quite similar to 1972-'73. I remember Wxman57 mentioned one of his colleagues liking this analog alot.

2009-'10 is far from what we have at the moment. Persistent blocking and upper level highs in the higher latitudes that year. Still a chance for this to change!

Not similar at all in the snow department here in DFW.
1.4 in Dec., 2.3 in Jan, and only a T in Feb.

I do hope it ends soon. I've not been able to post reanalysis of years and patterns because much of that is currently down and not accessible, which is why posting has been so limited. NARR/NCAR/ESRL and TAO/Triton (ENSO) sites and data is currently not available. So right now we are running off mostly by models. Many observational sites that are not private has very limited data.

My question is why does the government and businesses employ non essential workers? If you're essential then great, if not what does that say about the work or job you have. I'm considered non essential so........ Anyhow, does the government shutdown have any affect on winter getting started around here? Did they turn off the cold and snow machines?
