DFW airport recorded the 5th freeze of the season so far. That matches November of 2013 and 1 shy of 2014. Not close to the record though but not a bad start to freeze season. No agonizing over that this year!

The FV3 GFS paints a cold picture for most of the US in the long-range. Perhaps Texas can squeeze out some snow with these below normal temps:

I was at a stoplight this morning on way to work, glanced up, and saw these sun rays.

I was thinking, "I need to get a pic of this before the light changes."

With yesterday being -3 below daily avg November in down a little to -5.7

With today not getting much above 50 after a morning freeze we should shave off a little more before the next warmup.

12z GFS looks promising for West Texas to DFW area. This is the type of storm we need. Hinting at it in some previous runs but the ULL was centered too far east. This allows the ULL to dig out west and Texas is on the side of the ULL with divergence. If it digs a bit further south, we could all get in on the fun!

This is what I've been talking about. You still have dry runs but timing and ejection status is all we need. For DFW to get the base of the trough into Northern Mexico and enter through El Paso or the Big Bend National Park region is ideal. -EPO is going to deliver the cold. There are also a lot of moving shortwaves in play also.

I haven't cashed in on any of the big storms here, but this is probably still the snowiest November I've seen. It's snowing again today and I might see a surprise trace due to snow already beginning to accumulate.

Local mets here in Wichita Falls are calling for dry and above average temps through mid-December. Hoping we get a surprise before long because the anticipation for kicking this winter into gear is brutal! :double:

New Euro Weeklies aren't pretty. Sure it's colder than normal, but it sure is dry through the rest of the year.

Yeah the eastern third of the country gets hammered. I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised. That area always seems to get hammered.

Yeah I was talking about the ensembles, which are much more reliable than the control run.

I am actually hoping for that slightly drier than normal December! Wet Decembers in DFW correlate to warm Decembers. God forbid another warm Christmas.

Most of the cold anomalies are driven by the 1st 10 days of December and then the Pacific takes over as tropical convection drives huge height falls across the NE Pacific. Things then get more seasonal looking towards Christmas and into the New Year. However, the Weeklies are showing very little cold air in the NHEMI by that point, which seems off to me. Kind of the same story with precipitation, very dry until mid-month and then things look more seasonal with a few wetter periods mixed in.

As I've been saying, the wildcard is the Strat PV and if it can get disrupted to the point that it overwhelms the Pacific signal to dump cold air into NA.

Or how about the widespread Texas rain that the Euro had just a couple of days ago!
