Worst storm of your life (SO FAR)?

#1 Postby Anonymous » Sun Oct 12, 2003 12:00 pm

What was the worst storm you have ever been in? Since I live in NE Ohio, I do not get category 5 hurricanes. Yet, my worst storm was Isidore. I had so much rain and winds I'd say gusting to 45 mph. So, what was your worst storm?

Hugo 1989, Hortense 1996 and Georges 1998

But for me Hortense got the #1 place, I almost lost my home in mudslide thanks to her!!

2 to Georges, my sister lost her house

Isabel was the worst for me...Floyd wasnt even close. With Floyd I never lost power at home and missed only 2 days of work. With Isabel no power at home for 5 days and I missed 2 weeks of work.

Floyd, because it took me 5.5 hours to go from Goose Creek, SC to Columbia. That is normally a 1.75 hour trip max. I never thought I would see I-26 turned into a parking lot. I missed Hugo SF. I been a lucky guy.

The posts or stuff said are NOT an official forecast and my opinion alone. Please look to the NHC and NWS for official forecasts and products.

Model Runs Cheat Sheet:
GFS (5:30 AM/PM, 11:30 AM/PM)
HWRF, GFDL, UKMET, NAVGEM (6:30-8:00 AM/PM, 12:30-2:00 AM/PM)
ECMWF (1:45 AM/PM)
TCVN is a weighted averaged

Opinions my own.

Based on that traffic snarl up (partly caused by the evacuations from further south as well, among poor decisions from the ex-governor), it was decided that there would be no evacuations from the area.

West Central Florida has not seen a bad storm in a very long time! But I would have to say that Elena 1985 would be the most destructive storm to threaten my area. Even though she never came ashore we saw massive beach destruction as well as inland flooding. We had many families in the area that lost everything they had!

Given that I only lived in Orlando FL for a year and a half (California the rest of my life), I remember Mitch and the outer rainbands of Danny the most.

Although Isabel affected me directly, unlike Floyd, Floyd is easily the worst I have ever seen--the exceptional flood waters were probably like none I will ever see again.

Floyd or Andrew... both very close, but I'd probably lean towards Floyd (much more flooding in my area).
