I would not be shocked if Maria reached category 5 intensity.

Even as the forecast intensity keeps coming up the one constant in the forecast is a track over Puerto Rico. That is a really scary situation for them.

It's not time to hit any panic buttons (unless you're around Dominica or Martinique and environs) let's wait and see just how well this storm develops. At any rate I don't envy the folks in Puerto Rico, as this is likely to be much worse than the hit from Irma-- still... a lot can happen in those 72 hours. I find the SHIPS data most disturbing. (Granted it is only probabilities, but those probabilities are creepy). Nobody's mentioned a lot about them yet; but if these models hold up, the Bahamas are in for quite a ride too. But here I go doing what I like least in prognosticators and that's all the doomsday predictions. We shall see!

As they say in Paint Your Wagon, they call the wind Maria; but should forecasts verify, I fear they will start calling it by some other female 'M' name in 2023. Honestly I wouldn't be shocked to see a major by first visible, or a few hours after that perhaps.

you nailed it.. "another big blowup" . healthy yes. but if it were to be deepening rapidly you would see sustained convection in all quads.. not a big blow up one after another.

the eye size has contracted from earlier recon of 28nm .. if you compare radar size with the size of the islands it is down to at least 20nm or less..

Yes, though not immediately apparent from satellite.. I personally cant see any undercutting shear..
