It will in time. A big storm with lots of power, precipitation and momen tum will take some time to weaken

Where did you hear that? I haven't seen anything credible from Key West except the NWS Key West saying they were okay. Do you have a link?

Orlando Met said we need the cone of reality because he expects higher than anticipated winds and he believes it can be a lot east of the projected path

Ah! A man after my own heart!!

I am not sharing my cone. However you can have all this damned wind. I think my neighbors roof is in trouble. Garage door buckling with front porch roof.

Granted, it is not a verified source, but I am trying to be positive...

Crazy Hurricane Ivan made landfall in the Gulf, went over the eastern US, went out into the Atlantic, became another hurricane and hit Florida from the Atlantic.

And then he kept going and hit me as a tropical storm!

Want to give a special thanks to user Sciencerocks for keeping us updated on recon with not just Irma, but with Jose and Katia as well. You were watching three different storms at one point, must have been busy but it really helped!

Wow, wind gusts of hurricane force winds here in Orlando already, I didn't see this coming this early, gusts to 100+ mph don't seem that hard to get.

Conditions at: KMCO observed 10 September 2017 22:53 UTC
Temperature: 24.4°C (76°F)
Dewpoint: 24.4°C (76°F) [RH = 100%]
Pressure (altimeter): 29.43 inches Hg (996.7 mb)
[Sea-level pressure: 996.3 mb]
Winds: from the ENE (70 degrees) at 36 MPH (31 knots; 16.1 m/s)
gusting to 79 MPH (69 knots; 35.9 m/s)
Visibility: 1.00 miles (1.61 km)
Ceiling: 2000 feet AGL
Clouds: broken clouds at 2000 feet AGL
overcast cloud deck at 2700 feet AGL
Present Weather: +RA BR (heavy rain, mist)
SOME DATA ABOVE MAY BE INACCURATE!!!
"$" is an indication the sensor requires maintenance

Yeah, in our part of the state's coastline has been tornado apocalypse all afternoon.

Yeah, so much for the sigh of relief many breathed on the East Coast of FL when the track shifted West... It's still been a pretty rough day for the entire East coast of FL, it seems.

I stand corrected... Hurricane Ivan became a tropical depression/storm [not a second hurricane.]

Another weird thing about Hurricane Ivan... there were two earthquakes in its path... one in the Caribbean and one in the US.

It appears the surge is peaking in Naples at 7 feet which is 5 feet above high tide. This is great news and much lower than the predicted 10 to 15 feet.

Making the trek inland now...intense eastern eyewall currently over LaBelle. Other inland towns in the crosshairs: Arcadia, Wauchula, Lake Placid, Sebring.

Don't see any westerly component of motion.

Stay safe Boca Dude. I've got about a dozen friends in Boca who have been much in my thoughts today, so far those I've heard from are making out okay, but pretty exhausted after a LONG week of stressful preps.. Have to say I'm glad I don't have to be worried about my house there tonight... It was always stressful working overseas during hurricane season and wondering how my house in Boca would fare. Charlotte is a little less hurricane prone1

I would guess that frictional forces from the land interaction is what has led to this more NE motion. I thought this might happen. We will get more wind than what we thought on the Treasure Coast but it is much better for Sarasota, Bradenton, and Tampa and will also help weaken Irma sooner.
