Me too. No ditches but the water is up to the front door now. About an inch of water- give or take in the downstairs the last I checked about an hour ago. When Harvey first positioned itself this morning at my backdoor - I kept thinking I heard someone knocking on the door. Its just the wind. But it really sounds like someone urgently knocking on the door! Lol - Harvey quit your knocking! The electricity and internet are on. Doing good. Not worried really.

Here is an uplifting cute one from a couple days ago that is real

Who’s a good boy?

Otis, a German shepherd mix, strolled out of his home and into viral fame on Friday as Hurricane Harvey tore through his native Texas.

The service dog, who was photographed carrying a bag of food down a Sinton, Tex., street, got loose Friday night after the storm passed through his small town, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Salvador Segovia, who had reportedly been watching his 5-year-old grandson’s dog, came to check on Otis that evening and found that he’d gone missing.

Hurricane Harvey claims two victims as devastating rains loom
“I kept yelling his name and yelling his name and he wasn’t around,” Segovia said.

While driving around the neighborhood, Segovia said neighbors approached him about several sightings. He was able to locate Otis and bring him home before his grandson got back, the outlet reported.

I also read they don't know where he got the bag of food.

Outside, Tropical Storm Harvey was causing an unprecedented regional weather calamity and prompting a vast search and rescue effort still underway days later.

As the 15 residents of La Vita Bella sat in their activity room early Sunday morning — the room where they play games, listen to big-band music and eat popcorn — they joked and laughed, even as flood water quickly rose about their ankles, and then their waists.

What else could they do, asked Trudy Lampson, owner of the Dickinson assisted living facility and caretaker of the group.

“My ladies actually were really good,” Lampson said in a phone interview with The Daily News on Monday. “It was happy. It was funny. You had to laugh, because if you didn’t laugh you’d have to stand there and cry.”
Unbelievable spirit

That photo, shocking as it is, might be the single best photo to sum up Harvey and SE Tex.

Laugh at severe weather because it's better than crying about it...that's basically been my philosophy for getting through things like this.
(of course it's best to prepare beforehand so you're not laughing in water up to your chest...)

I hear the GE brand 30 minute water ready products hold up pretty well if you don't mind going out a window to feed the generator.

Just wanted to apologize for this rather unappropriate post. I did not know, it would be turning out this bad.

I've seen a LOT of posts on twitter urging Houston residents to file insurance claims immediately due to some new Texas legislature law related to insurance claims which takes effect on September 1.

Today there's a statement by a Texas state senator on the matter. I don't know for sure what the truth is, (especially since this senator seems to OWN an insurance company!), but I figured this may be helpful information for some who have been concerned about the new bill. I hope it is true that there is no rush for Texans to file their Harvey claims!

Statement from Senator Miles on HB 1774 Regarding Hurricane and Flood Insurance

"Over the past few days, the Greater Houston area received a disastrous amount of rain that caused extreme severe flooding. As the rain begins to cease and the water recedes, I pray for those directly impacted. As with previous disasters and floods, we will get through this as we have always done.

"Recently, there has been much information and misinformation regarding hurricane flood insurance. HB 1774 relates to the handling of legal actions for certain insurance claims, including those arising from damage to or loss of property due to hailstorms and other forces of nature. The legislation does not change how you file a claim or how your insurer will process your claim. The legislation does not prohibit you from filing your claim after September 1st.This bill does not apply to claims with the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association or the National Flood Insurance Program.

"HB 1774 requires policyholders to provide notice before filing a lawsuit as well as makes changes to the requirements for inspections related to a lawsuit, recovering attorney’s fees, and statutory penalty interest. HB 1774 does reduce the penalty interest of the insurance company from 18% to 10% if the insurance company fails to pay you in a timely manner. If you file your claim on or after September 1, your claim will be subject to the provisions of HB 1774.

For help with insurance questions and recovery resources, visit Texas Department of Insurance’s Help After Harvey website or call my office at 512-463-0113 or 713-520-1670.”

It looks like some heavier rain bands are starting to redevelop and move into the Houston area, meanwhile Galveston to Beaumont and surrounding areas continue to get inundated with heavy rains. It seems like the center has stalled out again.
