Re: Texas Winter 2016-2017
As has been the case since September, February has been another warmer than normal month. This month has been one of the warmest Februaries on record across North and Central Texas. Through the 27th, February 2017 would rank as the warmest on record for both DFW and Waco. Records for the official DFW site go back to September 1, 1898. Records for Waco go back to December 1, 1901.

All good things must end
Call it tonight
The party's over
And tomorrow starts
The same old thing again

Moderate risk in the midwest just north of the Ohio River, in this fast starting year to severe weather. Might want to check out the USA threads for the outbreak

I think we are going to see a early start to the severe weather season, and a very active one as well.

It's already been worse than the last few years and it's still only February... This setup looks more like something out of April.

I was about to say, we've had quite a few severe weather setups this year. But you beat me to it Brent.
Despite the dry last half of Jan/beginning of Feb, both months received above average rain as far as my personal record keeping goes. We should continue to see near or above average rainfall for Spring, although don't be surprised to see a couple of dry spells mixed in as has become the norm these days. Those pesky dry spells are my arch enemy... I must find a way to defeat them..
Last post in this thread for me. For those that disappear until Autumn, enjoy your Spring and Summer!

FYI, at least there was a little more to talk about this winter.
Last year's Texas Winter Weather thread? 184 pages.
This winter's thread? 251 pages.
It's the little things, you know.

Re: Texas Winter 2016-2017
No kidding - on the final day of February, the new tornado watch in Kansas, Missouri and Illinois mentions the possibility of a couple of intense tornadoes.
Most years, it would be a Winter Storm Warning or a Blizzard Warning for those places on 2/28.

@SteveBowenWX - It is not normal that the Chicago NWS office has issued more Tornado Warnings (4) than Winter Storm Warnings (0) in the month of February.

@NWSFortWorth - Morning low at DFW was 69F. Should this hold through midnight, it'll be the warmest low on record. Previous record: 62F in 2007 and 1955.

So fitting in a winter of warmth to finish out with more records...

Re: Texas Winter 2016-2017
Gosh darnit, goodbye to the winter that never was, aside from a few cold days. White flag is up, I'm shaking like a French soldier. Capitulation ensues. Bring out the train, surrender papers will be signed to to give away our winter glory. The enemy has won, no chance to drive back the invading blitzkrieg of warmth. Feeling helpless, like nothing could be done from the powers that be to fend off the terrifying, ferocious speed of the advancing onslaught. But we shall fight on. An underground network of freedom fighters has already been established to defeat this terrible tyranny led by Charles de Portastorm and Ntwx Churchill. V for victory my friends, winter will win.
