Texas Winter 2017-2018

#1 Postby Texas Snowman » Mon Feb 27, 2017 1:00 pm

Ok Texas winter weather enthusiasts, as we wind down the disappointing winter of 2016-2017, many of us are already dreaming of NEXT winter.

And we should be since we have a public guarantee from Wxman57! Because of that, I'll post here to begin our discussions of "Winter 2017-2018":

Whatever happens, don't forget that on Monday, February 27, 2017, Heat Miser wrote this: "P.S. Portastorm - I said I'd relinquish control over the Texas thermostat next winter."

I say we hold him to this! :D

I'm calling it now wall to wall warmth no freezes at DFW. Will set a record for earliest 100.

Time for some reverse psychology :P

Haha you guys are killing me. I clicked on Brents most recent post and it took me here. I love it! Although I enjoy spring weather, this winter sux. Time for some hope to get us through the non cold months. My early winter prediction is as follows: A La Nada to a moderate El Nino resulting in the 9th coldest winter in DFW history. We are due. Not as much snow as 2009-2010 but more than a helping. Three significant ice storms, one in each of the winter months. One measurable snowfall in November, after the Thanksgiving game. Several days below freezing allowing frozen stuff to hang around for a while. Numerous cold fronts with clouds keeping temps if the 30's for days on end. A massive blizzard in March just as Wxman57 thinks it is safe to come out of hibernation. A foot plus easy. Take all this with several grains of salt. I am not a forecaster and have no idea what I am talking about but it sounds fun and feasible. Who is with me??????

I must say I do not like the cold and enjoy the heat but even I wanted some more cold air. I could have taken one more freeze along the Upper TX Coast. 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

Hopefully we'll see one or two of these during the winter of 2017-2018:

Looks like the pattern might be shaping up for a white Christmas across Texas. My extra long range GFS model is indicating a large area of sleet and snow moving into Texas at hour 7086 on the morning of December 20th. There's another stronger surge of cold air behind this one, and with the upper-level low tracking across Texas on the 25th, we could be looking at record snowfall across the state.

My 294-298 day outlook indicates a massive surge of Arctic air moving south into the Plains states just before Christmas. It's all coming together for a major winter storm around Christmas.

We know that wxman57 is usually spot on with his forecasts. I like what I'm seeing here.

So we got Wxman57 to comment more than once on a thread about NEXT winter before this CURRENT winter is officially over.

That has to be a sign of some sort, right?

Not to mention a Storm2K record! :D

So since this is posted in the 2017-2018 winter thread, that means the 2018-2019 winter, correct? ;)

From Heat Miser:

"P.S. Portastorm - I said I'd relinquish control over the Texas thermostat next winter."

We will certainly keep this comment handy next fall and winter!
