DFW is on track for warmest winter on record... 1999-2000 is the current record. Only 4 days left and 3 of them will be above normal with the likelihood of one last 80 degree Tuesday...

So statistically this winter is worse. Anecdotally this winter had more to offer though when it did get cold albeit brief. But the warm days were warmer

Austin's February mean temperature this year, 64.5F, is greater than the average temperatures of 20 of the 27 Marches since 1990, and the average low, 49F, ties or exceeds the average lows of 23/27 Marches since 1990. Meanwhile, the average February high for 2017 beats the average highs of 18 of the 27 Marches since 1990. Although it looks like this weekend will bring these values down slightly, they should go back up again to close out February as highs in the low 80s and lows in the low 60s are expected.

If it weren't for our 4 inch event I would be inclined to call this year the year without winter. we had about 1.5 inches of snow right before the 4 inch event but it melted in the same day(This was way back in December). Since we might have hit an 1 inch of snow once. The rest have been days of snow showers where the ground was too warm. And I thought last year was bad. Our only hope now is if we can get a legit clipper train and then have a good storm in March. That's not to get back to average, that's just to make it look like something actually happened. Yet somehow this winter still wasn't as bad as 2011-12 where Columbus only got 7 inches of snow. We likely have the 4 inch event to thank for this.

It looks like there should be some storms late tomorrow into the overnight hours. I wonder if any those will leave behind any interesting boundaries for Monday? Then same story for Tuesday. It wouldn't be surprising to see some unexpected fireworks Monday or Tuesday, esp. if some mesoscale features come together. DFW area speaking.

The average high this month is 71.5 degrees the average high doesn't even reach 71 til March 24th...

What I've learned from this is: go with precedence. 97-98 was a super Nino followed by an equally abhorrent Nina. Two years of futility. Not to frighten anyone, but 99-00 had one winter event albeit more substantial than anything we've seen since March 2015. This is all DFW centric.

Yesterday was just perfect. Cold morning, 50s during the day with windows all open and good air circulation with just a slight wind, not too dry not too humid.

It's looking like it could get pretty bad in Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Southwestern Ohio. These are the areas that SPC thinks could see more celluar storms. Right now the NAM has some pretty extreme atmospheres for these regions on Tuesday and again on Wednesday.

HRRR is wanting to fire some storms west of DFW later and move them through the area. Doesn't look overly impressive but I'll gladly take the rain and a few claps of thunder.

In other news Chicago is about to do something it hasn't done since records began in 1871... record no snow on the ground in January or February!!!
