Storms lined out and progressed faster than expected, which I feel helped mitigate the threat somewhat. Yesterday's SPC outlook mentioned the possibility of supercells ahead of the front, which didn't really have the chance to transpire with the faster propagating line.

Hope everyone is safe from the severe weather down in South Texas today.

But the good news is that there was widespread rains across Hill Country up through the Metroplex, home of the scourge of Texas, the Juniper tree. Here's a map of where these demons reside, and with luck, today's rain put their "fire" out. Pollen be GONE!

Today is Valentines Day, the half way point of the month, and wouldn't you know it, it's officially the coldest day of the month so far. Pretty freaking sad isn't it. :hmm:

Light flurries have popped up in my local late afternoon forecast for today. I guess this is what winter has come to.

:uarrow:
The Mountain Laurels around work are blooming right now. They're native to the area too. Also, about eight trees are showing up in the pollen count (combination of the Spring bloomers and whatever remaining Cedar). Should be better today with the rain. Everything is confused.

I'm actually wearing a sweater today instead of shorts and t-shirt for a change.
Sad Winter this year. It got down to 18 here in early January, then had a few more freezes in the mid and upper 20s right after that 18. Then a warmup to "Spring" with a few 30s to 40s interspersed. Mostly 50s and 60s (for lows), and 70s and 80s for highs.

I think we may have to think about doing away with the "Texas Winter" thread, at least this year.
Although a Grand Solar Minimum is apparently in the works. You wouldn't know it this Winter on this side of the globe. Europe and Russia are having a real Winter. Let's move there!
:cheesy:
I am thankful for the almost inch of rain I received on my end of town, and 50s and cloudy. More like this time of year! :)

Looks like 2 more possible severe events for SE Texas or Texas in general over the next week. Geez.

The Monday system looks like another wet one for The eastern half of TX with GFS modelling high amounts around Houston.

Yea, it seems to be transitioning from a big svr wx threat to a big rain threat. However, there is lots of down stream energy that has to get sorted out before the models can pin down the ejection of that system.

Ntxw, is this just a temporary thing or is this a start of a colder regime due to weakening pattern in pacific from tropical forcing and other things?

It looks quite temporary, to me. Warm-up begins Friday. More above-normal than below-normal temps through the end of the month.

I'm a little surprised with how aggressive the WPC is already with the QPF over SETX for next week's system.

You'll notice that he actually posed that question to Ntxw. We already know what you think before you even make a post. :D

That is quite concerning along with the other parameters that are currently being seen. Would really prefer just a rain event if we have anything. However it is getting close to that time of year for these outbreaks in SE TX. Will definitely be watching closely after all the fun we had in the Houston Metro yesterday.

Alright, who let this guy back in the state?! I thought we had erected a force field keeping him out until mid March? :P
