Yeah, as always the EPO (Pacific) is the cold loading pattern for North America. Without it, there is just no true cold air no matter how good the AO, NAO, or PNA is.
what is the EPO stands now?

Currently positive and been mostly positive most of November except for this last weekend when many areas got close to freezing.

Yes, there were many areas earlier this week (Monday ) including into the Deep South, which saw their first freeze of the season as the mercury dropped to 30 degrees here at my locale.

Not to be lost in all, there is still a very significant storm system middle of next week with all aspects of weather mentioned by many previously in this thread. Wintery weather, severe weather, even potential flooding is all on the table for the state. With what happened last December (EF4 tornado) fresh on our minds, not an ordeal we'd like to see again.

That tornado outbreak last December is still fresh in my minds as well.

Ntwx, isn't the epo supposed to trend negative or no? I saw the models showing that.

Well the GFS isn't too wintry through 288 hours but it is wet... especially in drought stricken E TX

No real storm but still dumping major cold air deep into Texas at the end of the run:

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!!

One thing I am thankful for is for having found this board a few years ago and all of the knowledge I have gained from the great posts on it.

Then there are the times when I stay up late with everyone on here watching a winter storm evolve and think to myself delete the bookmark because I am gong to be so tired the next day.

Hoping this winter turns out to be a good one as signs seem to be pointed that way. Hey if the Cowboys can be 9-1 with two rookies' in the backfield anything is possible.

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

:uarrow:

That's the spirit! Hey, in addition to your Cowboys fun fact, Leicester won the Premier League, Kansas beat Texas in football, the Cubs won the World Series, Cleveland finally got its World Championship from the Cavs, and Trump will be president in January ... the unthinkable is happening all the time. Yes, it will snow in Austin this winter!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!! Seems like yesterday it was 2000 and a brand new forum.

Perfect weather across SE TX today with mostly sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 70s today. Clouds begin to increase this evening with the approach of a warm front leading to some isolated showers tonight and Friday mainly to the SW of the Houston-Galveston areas. The warm front will be followed by more nice weather this weekend before the next upper trough and frontal system bring a threat of severe weather Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. It has been my honor and pleasure to be apart of this community for so many years. To those I know in real life and those that are just online weather friends, I am thankful for your friendship, support and encouragement throughout the years. You have been a blessing to my life personally and I am thankful for that.

Speaking of, I don't even remember when the last tornado warning issued by FWD. It's been a non-eventful Fall thus far.

Very well said. We have a very special place here, with special people. There are a lot of places on the internet, but nothing is remotely close to what we have with Storm2K.
