I totally agree, as indicated by this reply.
You know, that blows my mind. This wasn't a Tropical Storm but a Cat 4. South Carolina is about to get the landfall as the eyewall is crossing into the Charleston area soon. And these people who comment on social media ike that apparently have never had to evacuate, consider evacuating, or as I and other volunteers have done, go to an impacted area (Andrew, Charley in my case) to help out delivering supplies. Just ignore those morons, the pro mets, especially here and at the local levels, did a good job getting Florida prepared and that's why this was not a lot worse than it could have been.
As someone who has been thru the drill many times before, I was not expecting a full head on hit, but still prepared for it. I cut down the italian cypress trees in front of my house, because I knew any gusts near 100 mph would have taken them out, or my wife's new car. I boarded up my house, with exception to my back patio which faces east and south.
And I will do it again. The 12 gallon jugs of water won't go to waste. And we've had every other supply ready like forever. We got lucky, but one day our luck will run out. It could have been this storm, and can be the next. Hurricane Andrew was headed directly for me, and took a jog south 50 miles. I know what these storms are capable off, but even driving around down here (Hollywood) most were prepared as well.

Opinions expressed by this poster are purely conjecture on his part and have no basis in reality. As such, taking any advice from me would be foolish, and potentially deadly.

The maximum sustained winds have decreased significantly in the 8 AM advisory, to just 85 mph. Of course, the flooding threat continues.

Wow, pretty intense out there. On a side note... I've been flipping through a lot of cam views this morning, great quality on this one.

I like that the NHC doesn't even mention the weakening winds in the advisory header. It may mislead people into thinking the threat is decreasing when storm surge and inland flooding are by far the biggest threats and won't be affected by the wind strength.

It's not going to make landfall. What a storm. Look at the intense convection right over the coast.

Re: ATL: MATTHEW - Hurricane - Discussion
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A tornado that started out as an offshore water spout touched down in North Myrtle Beach between 18th Ave N and Ocean Blvd., according to city spokesman Pat Dowling.
Preliminary reports indicate that one house may have lost its roof, one house has some damage to the roof, a couple of other houses have some minor siding loss, and there are possibly a couple of light poles down, Dowling stated in a news release.
There is some indication that it then lifted up and touched down again around 11th Ave. North, but Dowling has not confirmed that at this time.
No injuries were reported as of yet, Dowling said.

It's closed both directions by the SC/GA line. Trees are down and it usually floods out pretty good in a regular rain storm.

Re: ATL: MATTHEW - Hurricane - Discussion
Just spoke with my brother in Florence, SC. He said they are getting absolutely hammered by rain bands, tropical storm force winds, torrential rain, etc. Power flickering off and on and trees bending easily in the wind. With all the recent rains apparently the ground is super soft right now making the tree uprooting threat very real.
