Re: ATL: MATTHEW - Hurricane - Discussion
IMO the Carolinas might face bigger problems than Florida had with Matthew.

You cant put brains in statues, they need to take a hard look @ the path of destruction this storm has caused from its birth.

From what I have seen and heard, there are widespread power outages in Jacksonville, several blocks of flooding down on the beach, and plenty of downed trees. St. Augestine looks like it received a brutal punch.
Based on the electricity situation in Jacksonville, I'll be trying to return to the city tomorrow. If so, I'll let you all know what damage I observe (I live close to the Jax Beach).
We are scheduled to head to Jax from Pensacola Sunday. I have appointments at the Mayo clinic starting Monday. I would love to have an update as well.

Looks like the Carolinas will get hammered by Matthew.

Very strange track with this thing, now that the board has quieted down a little bit, what do you guys think about the intensity of Matthew after the loop, I know it's WAAAAAY to early to be thinking about this, but I find it hard to believe that a weakening depression would be in the Bahamas at this time of year, especially with this kind of ocean heat content

I don't know. Since the UK Met introduced the idea (at least to me) earlier this week, it seems like the later trends were for a low filling in and being absorbed into the pattern. Will it loop and steal the thunder or will that other wave make it's way into the WC and be the O? I honestly have no idea. 2016 has taught me to observe more than anything - at least for this year.

I don't agree with you.
People starting hearing about Haiti and the devastation and I think realize we got lucky.
Now, if the NHC had listened to some people on this board and had issued Warnings for Miami Dade County, I'd agree with you.
We dodged a bullet and I am confident that we will equally prepare next time.

Yeah, its still making a beeline to South and North Carolina landfall. If it goes inland a bit and slows before doing its turn, gonna be tons of flooding

Local news reporting that a special recon flight to Matthew is going on now. Apparently, storm is not turning east and actually wobbling west? They think it will make landfall in Beaufort County and the storm surge will be catastrophic for Beaufort, Colleton, and Charleston counties.

The storm has NOT turned NE as forecast. It may be too far west to avoid a landfall now

Latest GFS run would agree with that.

First of all, social media is a joke, second, if people who have social media, or access to news or warnings, and don't respect the power of these storms are Darwin casualties. Better safe than sorry, or dead.

What are the chances this stays north once it hits land?

Re: ATL: MATTHEW - Hurricane - Discussion
Matty is clearly spaced out (perhaps texting while driving) and is about to run right into the SC lowcountry...that would exacerbate is already high surge values expected in that very surge prone region. What kind of wind exists in that remaining eyewall piece? it's about to run right into Hilton Head and over toward Edisto.

That's what I was wondering.

Well I honestly couldn't picture a more dead forum as a Category 2 storm makes landfall within the next 30 minutes in the US.
South Carolina coast is getting pummeled right now. Tornado Warning issued for Florence County. Right front quadrant and angle of attack here proving to be a lethal combination.

2am superimposed over the 11pm position--even if it suddenly shifts along the blue line (the direction it was supposed to move as of 11pm) it's highly unlikely it avoids landfall at this point.
