Wow, lot's of Shear to the west towards Cuba. I'm guessing this is why Models weaken it before Jamaica.

I don't know if the Ridge is so much the driver with this now moving more WSW than the models were indicating or if it is a combination of higher intensity than forecast and the inflow drag off the northern Coastline of South America causing it to be pulled toward that struggle of inflow.

Eye is shrinking (maybe cooling?) and clouds have warmed a little. Perhaps leveled off?

If I'm reading it right, next flight takes off in about 6 hours...

New advisory going to cut it close?

Probably dealing with movement decision, because of it being basically just south to southwest of the 8pm advisory. This will also slow down the timetable I would think on forecast track.

Isn't this near the point where models begin to weaken Matthew? Perhaps we're seeing the first signs of shear taking a toll.

Perhaps, but an ERC wouldn't be out of the question. Watch for concentrics in the next few hours or so to be sure

Really I think it may be a Category 5 right now.

Extremely impressive tropical cyclone. I am awestruck completely by Matthew. Still moving SW and this continues to make me wonder how long will the poleward turn be delayed?

I don't believe we're seeing a pinhole eye form. It might actually be filling in a bit due to adverse conditions. If you notice, outflow to the northeast has almost collapsed.

Evening. This is incredible isn't it? Remarkable and deadly storm (and you learn something along the way). On a side note about the ridge, there has been a constant east breeze (and my uncle in Miami has delt with bad storms coming in from the east as well). That concerns me.
