Which forum to use?

#1 Postby WEATHER53 » Thu Sep 25, 2003 9:35 am

I guess we are in a transition so right now will this be the more active topic center of will tropics be or will someother. Also, I think as of Thurs morn WWBB is down again.

The Tropics Forum is obviously the most active right now, but hopefully this one really starts to pick up in the next month as the tropical activity dwindles and the days get colder.

WWBB down again? There's a newsflash. :o

Well I'm at work on my lunch hour so for obvious reasons, I'm just popping in. Once the Tropical Atlantic Season winds down, much more time will be put in to make the USA Weather Discussion Forum a very active forum. Hopefully that will be sooner than expected. We already have KOW working to maintain the USA Weather forecasts regularly updated, and I will be shifting attention once the Tropical Atlantic Season winds down to help out, primarily for the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. We're hoping to regionalize Storm2k forecasters to particular areas that they would know best to provide the best weather forecasts.

Of course, additional input from our members is always welcome. Thanks again, and hopefully we'll see HM, MT, and several others that could be of additional and very useful long range and medium range forecast discussions would always be appreciated. I've always enjoyed the meteorological discussions from HM, MT, DT, and several others from WWBB. But for obvious reasons, WWBB's board frustrations with their boards going down quite frequently are frustrating long time WWBB loyalists alike. I have enjoyed visiting and posting on WWBB because of the wealth of knowledge that can be found at that board.

Storm2k, the admins and moderators of this site have put in a lot of time to make this a friendly, family-style environment without the unnecessary shanigans of other sites. Friendly debate and disagreements are always welcome and there will always be disagreements. That's what makes getting the best possible information across and enjoying good friendly debates. I would love to see that wealth of knowledge come over to this board (without the weekly free-for-alls, of course. :D )

I would like to hope that a good many will make the migration from WWBB to here with the upgrades in place to handle the heavier traffic that seems to always plague the WWBB when it's been most needed.

I would like to thank everyone that has given Storm2k a try and hope that it will be a new home to many.

Thanks,

SF

I couldnt have said that better myself SF..........................

Yes guys like SF said come on over and join in the discussions and debates here......................Only thing that is asked like SF said is that the debates are kept at a Professional Level (Which Most Do Especially the Pros & ones with better knowledge At WWBB) Seems to be only a few who dont which as most know dont really add anything of value to the discussions there anyways and gets the flame wars going with the better ones who have the knowledge!..........................So enjoy and start posting away!!!!!!!!

On a side note the USA forecast has not been updated due to the changing of the servers which the admins are working on getting that back up again..........................

Yes a new and even better server which equalls even less downtime if thats possible because we rarely have been down anyways and can handle a ton of traffic!!!!!!!! Imagine That!

Have a good day and hope to see more of you guys here sharing your thoughts!!!!!!!

Yea this is beeing discussed 53.................Been throwing around a few ideas about this myself....................Or maybe just call it the Forecast discussion (Kinda really dont wanna do that because as we all know someone esle calls it that)....................

Either way keep the idea's comming everyone and see what we can come up with....................I will pass them to the admins and see what can be done to suit most of us here!!!!!

Thanks 53 for bringing this up!!!!

my thoughts which I just posted over on the tropical board:

Well, I'm not cool with making any weather forum a pay service. I simply don't have the money to pay for something like that right now and I'd hate to miss out on reading all the great discussions from the more knowledgable posters. But of course...there's two drawbacks to that. You get a lot more trolling with a free service...and secondly, you're really not free to complain about down time, which is frustrating.

But with that said...I simply don't see why we don't all migrate over this way. After visiting some of the other weather boards, this one really seems like the best alternative to WW. This is certainly my new backup, and I'm more than willing to make it my new regular board if some of the other regular posters do the same.

Welcome to the board Matt! I have been posting over here about a year and this is a great place to be!! Also, I have checked out some really good discussions on WWBB, but never got around to posting there. DT and all other professionals on that site will hopefully post here since their comments will be appreciated! Anyway, I look forward to your posts!!

So has anyone emailed Dross warning him that people will be leaving WWBB if he doesn't keep the board up and running?

Well, I definatly understand loyalty to a board, but rest assured that you are all are ALWAYS welcome here... The great thing about us is that we listen to you, the members.. Please let me know any thoughts or ideas you have.. You can either PM, email or get me on aim or msn messenger.. Were always ready to listen to new ideas..

Would love some suggestions for the weather central pages as well..

My experience is that he does not respond to e-mail. It would take only a minimum of effort to at least post on their opening page that the board is down again, better still maybe post that it is up again as lately it is about 50/50.

Neither can I. Not sure why they cannot keep things running...it is the only one I use(BB or sub service) that has any problems...Not a good thing.
