As far as widespread convection, it's still a bust here in SE Florida. It seems like even the slightest little E, SE, or S breeze pushes everything away at a very quick clip, and then we're left to bake all afternoon and evening, because there's never any convection upstream. It's pretty awful weather, in my opinion. For me, the way summers here become tolerable are through rain-cooled air.

Rain cooled air does feel nice, especially when mowing the lawn. Hope you can get some good rainfall soon. Looks like that system in the Gulf is bringing rain and storms towards North Florida and the Panhandle (with daytime heating enhancing them as well the sea breezes later today). It'll be nice to get some more rain and relief from the heat.

In addition to being unbearably hot, there appears to be a Saharan Air Layer that will move in from the Bahamas this week, which will just make things even more unbearable. NWS Miami snippet

The high will continue to build on Tuesday into Wednesday over
Central Florida, as the Saharan air mass works into the area from
the Bahama Islands. This will limit the showers and thunderstorms
to only a slight chance over the western areas of South Florida
for the middle part of the week, and allow for highs to get up
into the 90s which are near the record highs for this time of
year.

It was a hot one here across South Florida today and dusty as well. Pretty brutal

As of 755 PM EDT...Current forecast remains on track with only
minor updates to account for the latest trends in observations.
Temperatures are finally beginning to cool off a bit across South
Florida, after a hot day that saw heat indices soar as high as 110
degrees in some areas. High temperatures reached into the upper
90s, with some mesonet sites in the interior almost reaching 100
degrees! The strong upper-level ridging and midlevel Saharan dry
air has helped to mitigate thunderstorm development for much of
the day, outside of a couple of showers/storms that formed across
the interior and Gulf Coast where local sea/lake breeze boundaries
provided enough convergence to overcome a strong capping inversion
in the 850-700 hPa layer.

I swear the weather wasn't like this decades ago. It was fairly rare to go days and days and days in the summer without getting any cooling rain. If the flow favored the West coast, that typically meant we got it in the morning and night instead of the afternoon. These days, even the lightest E-SE flow seems to guarantee these "humid desert" conditions all day.

Still waiting on the rainy season to get underway here. Most of our wet June was attributable to Colin. we have yet to establish a traditional rainy pattern with a deep east/southeast flow. while this is unusual, it does occasionally happen. In fact, if we recall 1998 (right after the last super nino) had even more extreme heat and dry conditions with many fires across northeast Florida in July. A subtle change is already in sight as the stubborn ridge should relax some next week allowing for temps to slide closer to normal and a more normal convective pattern should finally establish itself. In the interim, coastal water temps have become obnoxiously warm. this extra store of energy/excessive evaporation almost always eventually yields substantial rainfall. Here in the Tampa bay area, the water is around 90...about as warm as it gets and almost without exception when it gets that warm a big convective event will bring it back to normal.

A spin up happened right where the bulge in the seabreezes collided which is actually more common than some think, seen one of these right where 192 and 27 come together a few years ago and it was quite a sight so this development near Kissimmee wasn't too uncommon

What a incredibly hot and dry period of weather we have had here all week long. The mer v ury as been appproaching the century msrk every day this week. It reached 99.3 degrees yesterday at my locale. Just missed it. This upper ridge is very stout and mlooks to control the weather at least into early next week.

It has been very dry as psyclone mentioned above. We need the rain for sure and hopefully this ridge will break down soon in order for the return flow from the GOM to provide us some moisture back over the peninsula.

100 degrees at my house every day for whole week, luckily we have had just about every day storms form near sunset like it happened yesterday to the east of me down to northern Osceola County, but they have come too late to relief us from the oppressive heat and humidity, at least it has helped in having the garden & grass hydrated during this heat wave which makes it worst when the sun angle is still very high this time of the year.
When the storms have formed the lightning is incredible. A couple of house fires have started in the city because of lightning.

Down here in SE Florida, hot and dry, storms are inland and not at the coast. It''s too hot to do anything outside between the hours of about 9:30AM and 5:30pm. Need some rain to cool things off but nothing in sight.

Currently 101.2 degrees at myhome locale. This is not only the hottest temp so far this year, but the hottest measured tempI have had here since 2007. My goodness it is HOT. I have been flirting with the century mark every day this week, but today did it bust 100 and it s may get up more a degree or two before the sun finally mercifully stats to go down. No rain in sight.

Expansive high pressure that has dominated the regions weather
this July will continue, though expand northward into much of the
southeastern United States. Little change in the weather is
expected even into next weekend, with periods of slightly drier
air and modest mid/upper level disturbances from the east
fluctuation convective coverage. At this point, these fluctuations
are difficult to pinpoint, so will continue to forecast scattered
mainly afternoon/evening thunderstorms focused over interior South
Florida and toward the west coast. Temperatures will average low
90s for maxima with mid 70s to around 80 degrees for minima.

As we edge closer to the peak months of the hurricane season, will want to watch this type of pattern closely as it would open up the doors to hits from the east.

Got a severe storm in my area today but got sparred the worst. Other places in and around Jacksonville got more damage. Trees are down in Mandarin, Northside and Clay County with 30,000+ without power. It's been a wild afternoon so far.
