That store had moved in there not long ago. Keep hearing of more people that have damage or are trapped by down trees and debris around town.

Palestine got walloped last night with somewhere around 7" of rain falling in an hour. Oldtown Palestine was covered with over a foot of water in the local bars and restaurants in the area.

The rain was coming down so hard, that one of my friends who lived on the side of a hill, due to drainage, had portions of her house flooded due to the rain draining into her garage.

Flash flooding was extensive in Palestine with the water rising several feet within an hour in some areas. Unfortunately, a grandmother and four of her granddaughters lost their lives in one neighborhood in Palestine.

I live in Jacksonville, work in Palestine, but am currently house sitting in Maydelle, Texas. I'm in a very rural area. There are two ways out of here on the county road I housesitting on, both ways have culverts that have a history of washing out with flash flooding of this magnitude. Bout to go see if I can even get to town.

That bottom pic says it all though. People were having a good time at the bar with drinks on the table, and then had to leave because the water rose so quickly and flooded the bar. The bar didn't even have time to clean up and close up, the flood waters rose that fast. Pretty crazy for an area not in hill country or somewhere prone to flash flooding of that magnitude.

Here's the rainfall totals. A very nasty bullseye right over Palestine stretching along US79 towards Jacksonville. My friend who lives on the side of a hill, whose home flooded was quoted $7500 today in damage. She lives on the side of US79 a few miles east outside of Palestine.

Crazy to get flood waters in your home when you live on the side of a hill. The rain was falling crazy fast over Palestine last night.

LCRA is keeping it from rising above 1,018 msl because of dam upgrades apparently. But I am confused, because I hear that 1,018 is full, but on here it says 1,020 is full (?).

Rained some last night, cloudy, brisk winds and mid 50s. This is my kind of weather to start May! Love it.

Days like this becomes endangered as summer approaches. 90s/100s and humid warm mornings. I will enjoy this while I can. The garden and vegetables are doing great.

I know Spring 2007 has shown up as an analog for this spring and if you take a look at the week by week spring of 2007 it's kinda similar to this spring in Texas. The first couple of weeks of April were quiet and dry just like this year, and then late April and early May had 2 to 3 weeks of an inch + of rain, then there was a week of quiet weather followed by rain returning at the end of May and continue through out June. I wonder if this June will be anywhere near June 2007 rain wise?

A wet June, followed by a wet July is a precursor to a mild, cool summer. 1906, 1973, 1989, 2004, 2007 all had it. June is not the hottest month overall climo but the sun is highest in the sky and the hottest temps recorded at DFW is in June around the summer solstice. Keeping heat and drought at bay during the period is crucial for the rest of summer in late July, Aug, and early Sept. This will be a managable summer. Question is of the analog pool, will this be a top 10 coolest summer?

:uarrow: Amen to that. 59 degrees at noon with a nice cool breeze. Wasn't it just a couple years ago that early May started out breezy and cool? Can not beat this. It could just as easily be 90 with nasty humidity right now.

Tomorrow's record low at DFW is 39 set in 2013, so yeah...

Ironically... the record lowest maximum for today at DFW was 53 degrees set in of all years 2011...

Sir, please keep your avatar up all Summer. Maybe we will get some karma off of it. I just want August to be cool. That is when we usually bake.
