Erika is the first E named storm to be retired since Elena, the name it replaced in 1985.
Joaquin is the first J named storm to be retired since Jeanne in 2004.

I am pleased the storms expected to be retired, Joaquin and Patricia, were indeed by the WMO. Erika deserved its retired status after the devastating floods the cyclone brought to Dominica.

I will say that I have always felt that T.S. Fay in 2008 should have been retired, not only for the devastating flooding across Florida, but for making history by making four different landfalls on the Florida peninsula with that crazy path she made zigzagging the state.

What's funny to me is I had a feeling Pamela would be a replacement name for a storm at some point, but I thought it would be for Patty or Paula on the Atlantic side. And here it is replacing Patricia, lol.

Something tells me the director for Dominica's weather service is a fan of the movie Frozen...since it would be up to them to pick...I think they might have wanted to change "Ana" to "Anna" as well...

I posted this about 16 months ago on another thread regarding the coincidences of the 2015 naming list...

Coincidence no more...

The funny thing about Allison and Erika being the only tropical storms to be retired, is that they both happened in seasons where multiple replacements names were retired - in this case - Michelle and Joaquin were the other replacements from the respective seasons to be retired. So not only are they the only tropical storms to ever be retired, but 2001 and 2015 are the only seasons to retire multiple replacement names at once.

Indeed, the originals from that list - Ana, Claudette, Henri, Kate and everything afterward - remain intact. We haven't seen an Atlantic original name be retired since Sandy...

And on Allison's list: Barry, Chantal, Erin, Gabrielle, Jerry, Karen, Pablo, Sebastien, Tanya and the other two remain.

Just saw the announcement. Not really surprised since those three names had the highest chance of retirement. The replacement names are fine as well.

In the WPAC, four names were retired: Soudelor, Mujigae, Koppu, and Melor.
