Some great snow up in northern NM along with great weather. Down in the valleys (6,500' ish) there is over a foot. In the mountains there is over 3 feet of powdery snow. Sunny skies and afternoons around 30 makes for some great conditions.

Don't bite Porta, look at the ridge moving into the west! It'll slip east

Ruffles have ridges, the west coast should not.

Camp Mabry (KATT) has yet to record a low temperature in the 20s this "winter" season. The last winter season in Austin in which KATT had no temperature lower than 30 was in 1994-95. Twenty one years ago ... sheesh.

"Fun" fact: Camp Mabry has seen only one day below freezing this winter (January 23). Jacksonville, Florida has seen six days with low temperatures in the 20s.

It's too late, allergies have gotten the best of me. I've come down with a sinus infection.
Despite it being so dry, it's actually the mold spores that are exploding at least according to the local pollen count. Blueberry Jumiper, a.k.a Mountain Cedar (which is actually not a cedar at all, it is apart of the Juniper family) pollen has been fairly low over the last week and a half but the mold has been really high.
Now my misery is complete! No rain and a sinus infection.

Question: The surface temps are a bit warm but if the precip was heavy enough would it fall as snow due to the upper levels being pretty cold?

Yes, the precip would likely fall as snow and melt as it reached the ground. It may accumulate a bit if it's snowing hard enough, but unless there is cold air advection to drop the temp below freezing it would slowly melt.

I'm not worried about it melting, CAA does come in in the next few frames as the line turns into all snow, an all rain initial line or a wet snow one could be the difference of 1-2 inches of snow early next week, or 3-4.

the 18z GFS makes me want to cry, I'd pay good money for it to happen, Unfortunately it's the 18z GFS 200+ hours out.

Re: Texas Winter 2015-2016
As long as this keeps rising, nothing is going to change much. Maybe threats of nor'easters in the east. For us, dry NW flow and when the ridge progresses we hit 60s and 70s and cold will press until it fades in eastern Canada or the Northeastern US. It's going to be relatively high through mid February. No signs yet of any -PNA. Arguably the only "winter" we've had was when it dipped negative after mid December. In Nov there wasn't much cold air with the -PNA but it gave us a heck of a lot of rain.

Haven't had a chance to look at it. Does it show a big snow storm for Texas?

Sorry no, wish it did. The Run had a mega Clipper hybrid and dropped 30 inches of snow in South-Central Ohio. Chances of it happening are super slim, but it's probably the snowiest model run ever for Ohio, well at least since these fantasy land snow maps have become available to the Public.

High slips too far east and the storm becomes a cutter on the 0z, that would signify how this winter has been.

Don't know why we can't just have a bowling ball storm deliver snow to Texas, a Gulf low forms and gives snow to the Deep South and then collides with an Alberta clipper that gives Indiana and Ohio a snow storm and then a Southeast transfer brings the east coast into the action. Probably will never happen
