Mid-Atlantic Winter Weather 2015-2016
Hello All,
I don't know about you guys, but I love snow. There is nothing that gets me more excited than watching those perfect little flakes fall from the sky and begin to accumulate on the ground. The snow will eventually cover the grass, pavement, and tree limbs with a blanket of white giving us a new perspective on the world around us.
A lot of speculation has been made as to the effects the current El Nino on the upcoming winter. Some say mild temperatures with more moisture/precipitation. How will this translate into snowfall for our area?
My prediction is that on average, temperatures will trend more mild. But my gut is telling me we will see the stars align, at least a handful of times, bringing us the beautiful combination of temperatures well below freezing and large swaths of moisture from the south.
Please feel free to enlighten me on what you see in our future for the 2015-2016 Mid-Atlantic Winter.
Sincerely,
TheLonesomeTractor

It may be possible for a couple of significant snow events across the Mid-Atlantic region this upcoming winter. Much will depend if we get some variation of a negative NAO during the next few months, which could happen even during a strong El Nino. I will say that if this happened, it could potentially produce a major snowstorm along the U.S. Eastern seaboard. Definitely something potentially to watch for this upcoming winter.

Well, right now it is a bologna sandwich with light mayo and mustard ... There are no indications at least through the next 10-14 days leading into mid- November that any significant cold will be coming down the pike. It seems that for now this is resembling the 1997-1998 El Nino version, which gave the Southeast region/Florida a very wet and and unseasonbly mild winter.
Could be late November into December before we get any real cold coming down into the CONUS.

Kind of jumping the gun here aren't we? Winter is still a month and a half away!
Anyway welcome Lonesome!
I'm afraid this is one of the less popular spots for winter wx discussion. 90% of the time it's just myself and AngelWing trading snow totals and record lows since we live relatively close to each other. Still though I thoroughly enjoy the winter and being I live in the infamous I-95 corridor (that magically seems to always be the line between 2 feet and 2 inches of snow) there's a lot of attention on NWS Mt. Holly for mid-atlantic winter wx.
Where abouts are you located?
So since we're currently looking at breaking record Highs tomorrow, I'll retreat back to my slumber. See ya when the flakes start flying!

Hiya Lonesome!!
Been busy lately and have not had much time for the board:( AS Bizzles says it's usually just him & I trading totals, freeze stories, etc when winter starts Glad to see another person jump on board here!
Where about are you located? I'm 30 miles from Philly and usually get the usual "north and west of the city" crap, lol. Bizzles could have nothing and I could get a foot and vice versa!
My thoughts on winter I haven't had much...I'm not a weather met, just dabble a little, but I think we might not get our really first snow until maybe mid-December. I'm hoping anytime after Dec 11 as I am going to see Mannheim Steamroller on Dec 11 and don't want to drive to Reading in the snow!
Be back here when we get the first winter warning!

Re: Mid-Atlantic Winter Weather 2015-2016
Hey Guys! I am from northern Virginia (Manassas) but currently live down in Virginia Beach. Last year the best we had was around 4 inches. The year before that though, we had a solid 8. Pretty exciting at the beach.
My brother works out at Snowshoe Mountain in WV and I snowboard pretty frequently so I am hoping to see some good snowfall totals out there as well!
Weather has definitely been warm lately. I believe you guys may be right in thinking that the brunt of our winter season will fall on or after December.

There you have it Bizzles. I have to go back and see how you did in the First Freeze Predictions thread.
EDIT: Bizzles you had October 18 for your prediction as I just checked.
