Ed - Man, it's about time you wandered over here!!!! Good luck with the inspection. Let us know how Isabel is affecting your area.

Hi porchians,
I was just outside watching Isabell. It's just breezy now and we've received little rain so far. Our power went out for about 15 seconds. Just enough to crash the computer and make all the clocks start flashing. :x I'm convinced that I could smell the ocean outside. It's supposed to pick up tomorrow and the schools are already closed. I emailed some work into my boss for tomorrow morning and added that I won't be in tomorrow if the schools close. It'll be a blast with the 4 boys here. My wife's been at her daughter's house more than here, babysitting and getting away from the boys. Probably getting away from me too. We have a very interesting family life.

 for your motherboard Pojo. Sounds like you had a bad day yesterday. I hope that things work out for your step dad.

Yeah, Jacki, you need some rest!

Donna, thanks for the welcome. The porch can get full of people, and I want to be able to say hi to everyone. No date yet on the inspection. We are making progress on sprucing the place up. I put down new vinyl tile in our hallway. Probably should do the bathroom and the kitchen too. Between the dogs and the kids, I'm lucky to keep it from getting worse!

Good Morning!

Well folks, won't be long now, it's *almost* time for the Pot Belly Stove! The early mornings here are now in the lower 30's with frost, like now......I'm sitting at 35°.......I fully expect here in about an hour, I will hit freezing!

So, how the heck is everyone? Me, "O'TAY Buckwheat!" Busier than a beaver, getting all the pre winter outside work done, storing equipment we no longer use etc......I built a *custom* dog house yesterday for our little chihauhau, this silly dog LOVES staying outside, let me tell ya, this dog house, not to brag.....is ONE heck of a dog house...we had quite a bit of carpet left over from the new house, so the WHOLE inside is carpeted, floor, walls, ceiling.....it has a *custom* front porch, railings and all "LOL!"

Another pre winter job that has to done, wood cutting! That's what on the schedule for today, we're heading up into the high country, 11,500', for a load of aspen, look for photos either tonight or tomorrow....the leafs are just now starting to change color!

Ed......"LOL!" Sounds like a *GREAT* family you have there, wish I could make Michelle take a few days away "LOL!" "JUST KIDDING" Honey!

Well, off for another cuppa Joe then out to the shop, sharpen the chain on the chain saw, then off to cut a load of wood! Make it a GREAT Friday one and all!

Dennis, I could write a book. Maybe a retirement project.

Watch yourself on the woodcutting expedition.

Dennis, I will join you by the pot belly stove! It is CHILLY here today for September, and I am a shiverin' up a storm! Only 60° and gusty too! He he he, that's probably a warm up for you, but it was well into the 80's yesterday, and this feels very cold!

My cousin is getting married tomorrow, so all of my family will start showing up today, yay! But that means I have to play Cinderella and get everything clean and ready, lmao! It should be a pretty fun weekend!

Well, gotta unload the dishwasher, I'll be around, have a good day everyone!

Good Morning!

"Ouch, groan, moan!" "LOL!" Yes, as you tell, ol snowmans VERY sore, stiff this morning, cutting, loading, unloading a cord of wood these days ain't as easy as it was let's say, 5 years ago! Could it be I'm getting ahem....."OLDER?" Naaaa, just outta shape "LOL!"

What a BEAUTIFUL day that was yesterday, cool air, wind howling thru the aspens and wildlife, my God, I haven't seen THAT much wildlife in a LONG time...saw more deer than I ever have, wild turkeys like I've "NEVER" seen before, came across 2 flocks, each had over 36 per......got me thinkin' about Thanksgivin' LOL! We cut a FULL cord of aspen, the old Ford Pickup was groanin and moanin coming up some of those mountain passes! We were cutting at an elevation of 10,500+ feet, for someone who has lived at high elevations all of his life, I've never been affected by altitude like I was yesterday, I was huffin' and puffin' the whole time......me *thinks* I still have a touch of the p-moan-ya.

Anyways, Donna, I agree, even "I" spent a lot of time in the Tropics as of late......take care and get some rest!

"LOL" at Jackie.....poor Cinderella, all work, no play!

That's enough outta me this morning, make it a great Saturday would ya? *sigh* Now to split and stack all that wood!

What a difference technology makes!

Took my pre sunrise walk this morning (about 3 miles) while chatting with my dad back in Illinois on the cell phone. Came across a covey of quail and shared their blustery noise with him by holding the phone their direction as I scooted them across the trail.

Ed, in the first year of my marriage (1971) I had just returned from Vietnam, and Kathy had just spent the year living with 3 other girls in her first apartment. I came home to a wedding just six weeks later...and we didn't even know each other, let alone like each other. But plans were on, invitations were out, money had been spent, and by God, there was no turnin' back.

She had three tickets in 4 months, lost her license, and had to rely on me and her friends for transportation. I was trying to find a way to get some real rest...as every night I would sleep fretfully waiting for incoming mortar rounds.

In short...we tried to make ourselves happily married by relying on each other every waking moment.

When we finally realized that instead of being together every hour of the day, we should give enough rope, enough trust, to let the other have some space, the relationship began to grow.

32 years later...we're best friends.

Glad to see mama gets a break from you and the boys. Just don't forget to take your turn too.

Dennis...crank up the stove if you want..but I'll not need it for a while. 103 again today.

Hopefully, my next post will be from our hotel room. Seven years since a week away together.

We'll probably laugh about that first year this time.

And, instead of worrying about mortars and traffic tickets, she'll be checking me out to make sure my zipper is up, and I'll make sure there is no toilet paper dragging behind when she comes out of the bathroom in the hotel lobby.

My how times have changed.

Good morning everyone,

After being offline for most of the day, I am back online. I got my computer back and it works like a charm. :)

Nice weather here. The only bad thing is the %%*%*(( marine layer. Maybe the remnants of Marty will squish that for a few days. :)

Hope the board move goes well tonight. Joshua

Hi Gang,

Is there room for one more on the front porch?

I'm playing hookie today. First time in a year that I've taken a Sunday off.

Temps are in the low 80's today and I'm looking at a sunny sky. My mother just came home from visiting her sister at a nursing home one town north of me and said it was raining cats and dogs there.
We've shut the air conditioning off and opened all the windows for a change. Will be glad when some cooler temps come our way - especially evenings when we can sleep with the windows open and enjoy the breeze.

WELCOME to the porch Jan! There's ALWAYS room for more wxbuddies! I'm going to start "Sittin' round the Pot Belly Stove" come Tuesday, the 1st day of Autumn.......I started the Pot Belly Stove over 3 years ago over at TWC.......it became one of the largest ongoing threads on any weather board webwide. I realize most everyone here on Storm2k lives in warmer climates but there's nuthin' like sittin' around a wood burning pot belly stove on cool autumn evenings sippin' *cowboy coffee*

So........how's everyone this FINE Sunday morning? Fixing to head to His house here in 15 minutes, just thought I'd stop by for a sec. MAN......it's gettin' down right CHILLY in the mornings, I had 33° when I got up at 0445 this morning, temps fell to "30°" at sunrise!................"ROFLMAO!" I just looked at my remote sensor for the outside temp.......it's sitting at "-0.5°" "LOL!" Must need new batteries!

That's nuff outta me fer now, make it a GREAT day and we'll see you on the NEW, IMPROVED board!

Good afternoon y'all!

And what a nice, cool, showery day here! People probably think I am totally nuts referring to a cloudy and rainy day as nice, but since it happens so UN-often around here, I enjoy it!

I had a great weekend! Yeserday, my cousin got married in Scott County Parks Pioneer Village, which is a very beautiful park about 30 miles from here. The weather couldn't have been any more perfect......... Sunny with a white puffy cloud here and there, a gentle breeze, and about 73°. :D That is one beautiful church, and if I ever get married  , I would love to do it there! Then, after that, we went to the reception in a banquet hall, definitely the most elegant reception I've been to! I couldn't believe how many people were there, they have a LOT of friends! lol It was great to catch up with family, some of my cousins I hadn't seen in almost 10 years! Plus, they had German Chocolate cake, which is my absolute favorite! hehe, I had a few drinks, and said my goodbyes and my friend came to pick me up, and we went with a small group of people to fish at Coralville Lake, which is about an hour from here! Even though it was FREEEEEEZING and I spent most of the night huddled under a blanket by the fire, we had a total blast, and I didn't make it home until 6 am!

And then.....today. One of my friends came over and woke me up this morning to tell me that another friend had been in a motorcycle accident late last night and died! It still doesn't seem real to me, I haven't quite got the shock yet, but I am sure I will at the funeral. We weren't really all that close, I hadn't even seen him in over a year, but I think everyone who loses someone their age knows how hard it can be, reminds you that it can all end just like that! It'll be rough, but I'll get through it, it'll be a lot harder for my friend, the guy who died was her first boyfriend. Sometimes I think things like that happen to make people realize what is really precious in their lives, just a shame it takes tragedy to do it!

With that said, I just want to take a quick moment to tell all of you on this board that you mean a lot to me! :D Thank you for being the wonderful people that you are, and making my life brighter just by being a part of it!

Now I think I'll curl up in a blanket, and enjoy the rest of this rainfall. Take care everyone!

LOL, Steve...that story made me chuckle
out loud! I'm glad the two of you are taking
care of each other, in the best ways possible!

It's still warm, here, but, the leaves are falling
everywhere! There's a huge sycamore tree in
the neighbor's yard, out back, and, the yellow
leaves on the ground are such a stark contrast
to the green grass. Autumn is just around the
corner...ahhh, yes!

Enjoy the porch, Breeze while we still can. It will be pot belly stove time soon.

Sounds like you had a nice weekend Jacki. Tomorrow back to Wallyworld, right?

Welcome Janis, we're back to closing the windows at night - because it's getting too chilly!

Hey Josh, It seems like you've been away longer than that.

Steve, thanks for your thoughts. I can always count on you for a positive perspective.

Dennis, that wood will be just in time for the Pot Belly Stove, eh?

Good Evening Porchians!

Had a real nice weekend weatherwise and I spent alot of it outdoors cleaning up after Isabel, planting bulbs, etc.

Jackie - I'm glad that you had a great time at your cousin's wedding! I feel the same way about this board - it's my extended family! :D

Jans - Glad you could join the porch! It's quite big as you can see and you can always grab something to drink, eat or find a comfy hammock to nap in.

We got Derby's remains back yesterday. They came in a nice little cedar box and it had a brass plate on top with his name engraved on it. I didn't know how I'd feel about having my pet cremated, but in a comforting way, I'm glad to know that I have "him" back and inside the house and not outside in a hole. Sorry to be so morbid, but I knew I could share this with you guys.

Speaking of fall, I'm starting to see some trees getting a hint of color. I need to get my fall indoor decorations out.

I hope everyone is doing well. Have a great night!

Good morning!

Back to work today - these tired old bones didn't want to leave the comfort of my bed this morning. Opened the door to the back porch this morning and the heat and humidity are already high - and it's not quite 6:30 am my time.

Hope everyone has a GREAT day!!

Just saying Hi to everyone on the Front Porch. I have had such a hectic life lately finally had to make some tough decisions and had to say NO to some things. So I have given up being Girl Scout leader - with my job on the line - I figured that was more important at the moment.

Bring on the cold so we can open the Pot-Belly Stove back up...

Evening folks. Can't wait to sit down and rest a spell; what a bummer day.

The air conditioning quit in my car today - I only have a 10 minute ride to/from work - but the unit that cools the house is on the way out as well. I see big dollars in my future - and they aren't ones that are coming to me.

Brought some homemade apple pie with me and I think I smell a fresh pot of coffee. Any takers?

APPLE PIE???? Who's got the vanilla ice cream??? YUMMM!!! :D

Ticka - I hope that by downsizing your responsibilities you'll be able to relax alittle bit more. I assume you have a daughter or two in the Scouts. How old are they and how do they feel about it?

Is it Friday yet??? Actually, it's not that bad, but alot of things have been hitting the fan all at once. My poor boss is getting married in a few weeks and he's dealing with our annual budget. The guy's stressed to the max and he's very easy-going!

We're going to get showers tonight and rain in the morning. It looks like more showers on the way again for the weekend. :( I did do alot outside this weekend which was nice.

I hope that everyone has a great evening and I'm looking forward to the smell of burning would in the pot belly stove myself! :D

How is everyone on this night?

I am CHILLY! I think I will be making the switch to the pot belly stove here pretty soon!

Today, I spent the entire day helping my cousin Haley move, and then the evening watching her daughter while she was at work, and helping with the unpacking! Needless to say, I am beat!!

My friend is in town from Tuscon, where he is stationed in the Air Force. He told me today he will be going to Iraq soon, so I hope he will be okay! But for now, I will just enjoy his visit, we have been practically inseparable since we were little kids! :D

Ok, well my eyes are drooping a bit, so I think I better get some rest! Got much o' the same going on tomorrow! G'night all!
