Hey everyone! Hope all of you along the East Coast (Carolinas Area) are faring will with Hurricane IZZY. I just want to let you know that WxChat.com has not only a Wx Center but I have also compiled a Weather Terms Glossary. You can also submit your own weather terms by click on the "Submit a weather term" link that is located on that page. Please feel free to submit your favorite weather terms if you do not see them in the list.

Missing from the glossary:

fish - 1) a tropical cyclone which never makes landfall, 2) the scaly, aquatic vertebrate that can sometimes be the victims in a hurricane

blob - any colorful mass moving on the infrared loop that draws the attention of hurricane enthusiasts

glob - a blob in the Gulf of Mexico

dyn-o-mat - substance of unknown chemical composition that is dispersed into the clouds by a mentally ill cropduster in hopes of destroying a storm

methane hydrates - substance that combines with sedimentation from the rivers and flows into the oceans where it changes the sea surface temperature when the gases rise to the top and it draws hurricanes to them and the cows in Texas make more methane and that causes more hurricanes to form in the Gulf or something like that; also known as the theory of saywhat

code red - any hurricane warning issued 168 hours prior to landfall from a midwestern long range forecast center

disco - a forecast discussion issued from a certain midwestern hurricane center

Here's another one:

Snizzle: A mix of snow and drizzle.

We receive a lot of snizzle in the first few days of winter up here.....not quite cold enough for a full blown blizzard, just cold enough for a few flakes.
