Re: ATL: BILL - Tropical Storm - Discussion
It has definitely slowed some, even officially to 10 mph. Don't like to hear that since it gets more time over water. If he went into a full out stall, which I don't think is likely it could conceivably make CAT1 status. Not predicting that, but it isn't out of the realm of possibilities, especially if the storm continues to slow.

For what it's worth, I just looked at the NHC advisories and they indicated Humberto was moving at 6 to 8 mph before and as it made landfall.
Bill is a little southeast of where Humberto was when it became a tropical storm, but moving a bit faster. Let's hope it keeps moving like it is or speeds up. The last thing we want, in more ways than one, is that it slows down.

My concern is both. Our grounds are still saturated and higher winds could bring down more trees and cause a lot of damage and major power outages. Very concerned about the currently predicted rainfall too as that will most likely cause flooding and I don't need any more water in my house nor do the thousand in Houston that haven't had a chance to recover from the Memorial Day floods.

Hear that my daughter is studying at U of H and I made sure her and her roommates are prepared for this so yes I am doing a little sweating here, Thank God she listens to me.

I cannot rule out a hurricane yet. The waters are quite warm. I do see a rain event from Bill.

We're holding our breath here in Clear Lake. The flooding was unreal last month. Everything is still so saturated. Hunker down, vbhoutex. Be safe!

Hoping for the best for you and the many others already affected by too much rain.

Starting to see some cold cloud tops on satellite. Possibly about to ramp up.

Noticed the same thing. The radar echos of the center are starting to show up a bit better too.

Agreed. We've had so much rain recently. Nowhere for it to go. Thank goodness for a week of dry weather this past week--gave us a bit of a break and time for things to dry.
Spent the evening doing outdoor hurricane prep. Taking down things that might blow around, fixing a gutter, digging out a culvert to help with drainage. Hopefully we'll be okay. Neighbors seem unconcerned, looking at us doing hurricane prep like we're crazy. I hope they're right and we're wrong but I'd rather be prepared.
I think people here in Houston are expecting rain and possible flooding. Everyone is aware and nervous about that after the Memorial Day flood. Not sure people are thinking much about the wind issues and associated problems with that. I hope Bill doesn't turn out to be an unpleasant surprise in that regard.
