Re: Texas Winter 2014-2015
Pretty sure I have seen two faint lightning bolts in Corinth. Started off as heavy sleet around 6PM, been snowfall now for the last hour or so, coming down heavy. Roads covered. Visibility reduced. Meh, still not impressed.......

Ticks me off too. At least issue delayed start. But no, just wake up the whole house in the morning.
Edit: never mind, just got the email of the closing. Add rockwall ISD to the list.

I'm not suprised for the central core as the urban heat effect tends to slow it down but I would expect the temps to eventually drop below freezing. I am a little suprised that Georgetown has slowed though.
I doubt there is a heat island effect going on. There hasn't been any sunshine the past several days.
That's true and even with today's high of 70 it shouldn't have been long enough but whether it's urban heat effect or something else temps around my area tend to (but not always) be the last to drop to freezing even when other areas are at or below 32. Still at 35 at my house though the dew point is finally dropping.

Re: Texas Winter 2014-2015
I know you north tx folks are enjoying your event but found this interesting discussion from Houston nws office as it would pertain to us southerners and could even translate over to me in SE LA
A COLD FRONT IS MOVING ACROSS SE TX AND WILL LIKELY CLEAR THE
COAST BY 11 PM. TEMPERATURES ARE FALLING QUICKLY BEHIND THE
BOUNDARY AND CALDWELL IS ALREADY DOWN TO 37 DEGREES. LEANED TOWARD
THE RUC FOR HOURLY TEMPS OVERNIGHT SINCE IT IS THE ONLY MODEL
REMOTELY CLOSE TO CURRENT OBS. HAVE SOME CONCERN THAT MODELS
ARE NOT COLD ENOUGH AND THAT COULD BE A REAL PROBLEM OVER THE
NORTHERN ZONES BY MORNING.
WATER VAPOR IMAGERY SHOWS A DISTURBANCE OVER NORTHERN MEXICO.
THIS FEATURE WILL APPROACH SE TX AROUND 09Z AND WILL GENERATE A
SWATH OF PRECIPITATION ACROSS MOST OF SE TX. HIGH POPS ARE ALREADY
IN PLACE BUT BUMPED UP QPF TOWARD THE COAST AND RAISED POPS FOR
EARLY THURSDAY MORNING ALONG THE COAST. SINCE PRECIP WILL BE A BIT
HEAVIER AND LAST A BIT LONGER THAN PREVIOUSLY FCST...HAVE MORE
CONCERN THAT WINTER PRECIP MAY DEVELOP FOR A TIME OVER THE
NORTHERN ZONES. AM HESITENT TO MAKE BIG CHANGES AT THIS TIME BUT
RAP AND NAM FORECAST SOUNDINGS SHOW A FAIRLY DEEP FREEZING LAYER
BETWEEN 500-3500 FEET WHICH APPEARS COLD ENOUGH TO CHANGE PRECIP
TO SLEET. WILL BE WATCHING TRENDS VERY CLOSELY AND A WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY FOR THE NORTHERN ZONES IS NOT OUT OF THE
QUESTION.

Snowing hard by the big airport. Pinging of sleet has given way to large flakes landing in silence.

Looks like the axis of precip is starting to move across the DFw area. Pushing through Fort Worth now. Looking at the radar it looks like Dallas/rockwall counties are going to get a healthy dose of snow in about an hour

Virtual whiteout in Denison. Probably very close to blizzard conditions. Visibility has plummeted.

It really is near blizzard conditions. The last time I can remember experiencing something like this was Christmas eve 2009. The snow is so fine now being blown around.

Same in Sherman. Snow devils racing down the street. Yard covered up in a matter of minutes. Crazy.
