Very curious how this is going to play out in the northern Austin metro. Temps are dropping quickly. My PWS is showing 41 already and steadily declining.

Have to agree. The temperatures have dropped quicker than expected, at least that's my impression. I'm not saying the front is more potent than forecast, but the onset of the temperatures does seem to be quicker. I've gone from 67 to 41 in a little less than 4 hours. It will take a pretty considerable reduction of that rate to hold off the freezing temperatures until midnight.

Definitely appears that we are heading for sub-freezing temps earlier than forecast. If most of the precip coming in falls in a frozen manner, this could get bad very quickly around here.

Whoever get's under those bands down in Midland and Odessa is going to see some very heavy snow/sleet/frz rain. I wonder if they will expand in width?

It looks like more storms have developed in the past hour behind the initial band down there. The radar still looks good for a significant winter storm, at least to me.

Yeah I don't really get the bust talk... honestly I wasn't expecting this many bands before sunset. This was supposed to be more of a lull with the main show that stuff back towards Midland

There is a change in my forecast on NWS site. I originally had 3 inches of sleet and snow and now it says only 1-2 inches. Hmm...
NWS also says current temp is 35, but my weatherbug and outdoor temp gauge is at 31- not to mention the ice already on everything elevated.

It's a nowcast at this point, don't worry about point forecasts. It's all about watching the radar out west and southwest. Temperatures area-wide is pretty much below freezing. Anything that falls now is likely to be frozen or will freeze.

At this point I'd start paying attention to what's happening outside rather than the point forecasts. The radar is lighting up to your SW, and you're certainly going to be cold enough. Nowcasting as opposed to forecasting is going to be the way to go.

Very intense band of sleet liking crossing Loop 820 in western Tarrant county towards N Ft Worth, Saginaw, and Keller. The entire band is probably going to sweep across the metroplex and coat.

I'm close to I-35 and I-820 intersection. It's mostly freezing rain but it is coming down hard and accumulating on exposed surfaces. Hopefully this turns to sleet soon or this could get bad.
