I wonder why they maintained the Hurricane Watch for Puerto Rico as the radious of Hurricane force winds is only 10 miles and the new track passes more than 120 miles from the NE coast.

I'm guessing because the radius of hurricane winds is expanding now or will be shortly and they are being cautious just in case there's a leftward shift in the track.

Visible satellite shows Gonzalo bursting a CDO hot tower right over the center at landfall.

It's hard to tell. It seems you should get a brief period in the eye for at least 10 or 15 minutes. Are you on the French or Dutch side?

St. Martin is the French side and St. Maarten is the Dutch side. So, I'm guessing they're in the French side.

Thanks, Abajan. I should have thought of that because I've been there. :)

Adam, how's it going now? Did you get any calming yet? If you're going to get into the eye it should be pretty soon. The rain looks torrential on radar and satellite.

Here's a composite of the radars from the Lesser Antilles and Puerto Rico, since there's no intermediate radar in between.

Yes I am hunkered down in my house and I am safe.We are currently getting hit hard.I think they eye wall is right over us.
very strong wind..gusts way over 75 mph and heavy rain...its been going on for a couple of hours now.
our boat is anchored in the Simpson Bay lagoon and it has burst partly lose from its ropes and we cannot get to it.
just hope it does not sink.
winds getting stronger as I type.
Be safe everyone
This storm may only be a CAT 1 but it's no fun at all and is really causing St Maarten major problems.
