Well I know more acorns mean a cold winter, but this tree has never produced acorns in the past 11 years not even last year, does this mean an extra cold winter?

I can't be sure, but I think it means Santa Claus is coming to town.

Hey guys, I posted in the SETX/SWLA thread but thought I may ask here for more visibility. What are the odds of it being a wet evening in Lake Charles, LA this upcoming Friday?

Happy Autumnal Equinox! Fall is truly here and this week is staple child for fall weather. Seasonably mild days, cool nights, and persistent NE winds. With low humidity it will smell and taste much more crisp!

Hear, hear texas1836 and Ntxw! Fall has arrived and it's a beautiful thing. :D

We officially say goodbye to Summer 2014 today. It really wasn't too bad of a summer all things considered. August and early September were brutal in my parts but that was it. Could have been (and has been) a lot worse.

Noteworthy from FWD discussion:

.CLIMATE...
OUR EQUINOX COLD FRONT IS NOTHING COMPARED TO THE ARCTIC AIR THAT
INVADED THE REGION IN SEPTEMBER 1983...RESULTING IN A REMARKABLY
EARLY FIRST FROST. ON THE MORNING OF SEPTEMBER 22...TEMPERATURES
PLUNGED INTO THE 30S THROUGHOUT OUR NORTHERN AND WESTERN ZONES.
THE CHILLIEST SPOTS WERE BRIDGEPORT AND LAMPASAS...BOTH OF WHICH
DIPPED TO 35 DEGREES.

THE AUTUMNAL EQUINOX IS AT 929 PM CDT THIS EVENING.

In a few weeks (mid October) we should have a good handle on the dominant teleconnections for winter. Snow cover advance in Asia will be key during that time for AO/NAO tendencies. In theory a below normal start to above normal end is ideal

And Autumn 2014 is officially 26 minutes old. We had FROPA a little after noon today, with a classic late September band of light showers and clouds, followed by a deep blue sky an hour later, and the air is noticeably drier and cooler.

The sun's peaked its head over the horizon a little while ago, and we're still sitting @ 59F here in Jacksonville! It cleared out last night with little wind so we got to take advantage of some radiative cooling!

It was 53 degrees this morning at the Duckworth Weather Center in McKinney. Windows were down coming to work.

This morning was very pleasant with temps in the low 50s at my place. It is nice to no longer see 90s anywhere in the forecast and even nicer to not see 70s for lows. Hope we get some rain in October though. Need moisture in place for the coming Arctic outbreaks to work with.

What a boring week. Hopefully change is on the way. Here's a short snippet from the DFW AFD...

A large-scale pattern change more typical of early fall evolves by the first of October or the middle of next week. This may allow for the occasional frontal surge and better rain chances. Confidence is not high on timing or what actually evolves with the pattern with some differences in model solutions. Until then expect much of the same outside of an increase in surface dew points and humidity by early next week.

Yeah, I miss the rain already! Nice in our part of the state to have a dry out period to keep the soil fungi at bay, but would also be nice to see significant rain chances in the forecast again before the surface and subsoil profile dries out.

We're falling back into that pattern again of lots of rain, then dry for 2-4 weeks.

Well, at least it is not in the 90s/100s with no rain. I like 60s in the morning.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO TX
329 PM CDT TUE SEP 23 2014

.LONG TERM (THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY)...
THE ABOVE MENTIONED UPPER LOW WILL GENERALLY MOVE LITTLE THROUGH THE
REMAINDER OF THE WORK WEEK INTO THE UPCOMING WEEKEND. DESPITE THE
PRESENCE OF THIS LOW...THE ATMOSPHERE WILL REMAIN FAIRLY DRY DUE TO
CONTINUED EAST TO NORTHEASTERLY FLOW IN THE LOW LEVELS. THERE COULD
BE ENOUGH MOISTURE RETURN FOR AREAS GENERALLY SOUTH OF HIGHWAY 90
FOR SOME AFTERNOON CONVECTION ON FRIDAY. THE PREVIOUS FORECAST
ALREADY ACCOUNTED FOR THIS AND WE/LL RETAIN THIS IN THE AFTERNOON
FORECAST PACKAGE. WE DID OPT TO MENTION A SLIGHT CHANCE FOR
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE COASTAL PLAINS ON SATURDAY...
WITH THE REMAINDER OF THE AREA LIKELY TO REMAIN DRY. THE UPPER LOW
BEGINS TO MIGRATE EASTWARD ON SUNDAY. IN THE WAKE OF THIS LOW...
WESTERLY FLOW ALOFT BEGINS TO DEVELOP AND WE EXPECT DRY WEATHER
WITH TEMPERATURES A FEW DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL.
