Rammasun is a perfect example of a forecaster's nightmare; a sudden deepening/intensification just prior to landfall on a populated area.

I won't be surprised if this made landfall as a category 4 125 knots with that very round and tight eyewall...

You sure about that? I haven't seen that news this evening. Maybe it really says 100 people were EVACUATED? Please confirm.

The original article came from USA Today. Yeah it's weird that such a sensitive local news reached other countries first before the locals themselves...

I'll take that "news" with a grain of salt. Do they even have correspondents in those area being hammered by this storm?

12Z multi-platform analysis had 98 KT at landfall

I made a plot of it, but I do not see a way to attach it (I have no imageshack and have no interest in imageshack)

you can use Tinypic. you don't have to create an account and doesn't reduce image quality.

would love to see that plot! :) i'd agree with that, maybe slightly more but i kinda expected a lower pressure reading in Legazpi

white contour is the tropical storm force winds. Plot is valid as of 12Z. Peak wind was 98 kt. 90 KT winds were in a very small area
