Some stats for a memorable season!
-Through March 7th Philadelphia sits at 62.9" of snow for the season, which is the 3rd snowiest winter on record (since 1872) just behind the 65.5" that fell in 1995-96 (remember the Blizzard of '96?), but still quite far behind the all-time snowfall record of 78.7" which fell in 2009-2010
- Allentown, PA has had the 4th snowiest winter on record so far, with 66.9" to date. This ranks right up there with the historic winters of 1966-67 (67.2"), 1995-96 (71.8"), and 1993-94 (75.2")
-Central Park's largest storm of the year came on February 13th/14th when 12.5" of snow was recorded
-Central Park has had measurable snow on the ground from January 22nd through at March 10th (still ongoing). That's 48 days and counting of continuous snow cover!
-Newark, NJ saw 7 days in a row at or below the freezing mark from February 6th through February 12th
-Islip, NY dropped to 0 degrees on January 4th, the coldest temperature since 1988
-Bridgeport, CT saw 9 days with minimum temperatures below 10 degrees
-Central Park (29.0"), LaGuardia Airport (27.8"), Islip, NY (24.5"), and Bridgeport, CT (32.1") had the 2nd snowiest February on record! Newark, NJ recorded 30.3" of snow during February, which gave them the 3rd snowiest February on record
-On March 4th Baltimore, MD dropped to 4 degrees, which was the lowest temperature ever recorded in March! The previous record was 5 degrees, also set on March 4th, way back in 1873. This was the latest occurrence of a minimum temperature below 5 degrees; the previous record was February 24th set back in 1873 & 1879
- Dulles airport outside of Washington, DC fell to -1°F on March 4th, which tied the previous monthly record minimum for March (set on March 15th, 1993)
- Boston's largest winter storm of the season was 15.1" on January 2nd/3rd
- Worcester, MA had 25.6" of snow in a 7 day period from February 13th - 19th
- Washington DC's Reagan National airport has seen 4 snow events greater than 2.0" this winter: Jan 21st (3.8")... Feb 13th (7.0")... Feb 25th (3.8") & March 3rd (3.8"). The last time they had a 2"+ event was January 26th, 2011
