It is coming. Look at NWS radar.

Oh I have trust me I have. Been staring at three different radar sites all afternoon trying to figure it out. Just wasn't meant to be I guess :grr:

BTR should be having this for more than 2 hours if radar is not deceiving me.

I don't know, but I noticed the radar filling in out to the west near San Antonio and beyond.

NWS LCH forecast for Beaumont:

Late Afternoon: Freezing rain and sleet likely. Cloudy, with a high near 32. North wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.3 of an inch possible. Total daytime sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tonight: Snow, freezing rain, and sleet likely before 1am, then a slight chance of snow between 1am and 4am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 24. North wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

We're not getting anywhere near 32 though.

Local weatherman just said to expect this increased sleet coverage to continue over us for several more hours. Radar returns are looking the best they have all day and the sleet is really starting to accumulate outside. NWS Lake Charles just updated our winter storm warning which will continue until 6am tomorrow. Another .25" of freezing rain and 1/2" of snow are still expected tonight. Maybe not such a bust after all?

One thing I have to mention again is that at 4pm it's 25 degrees with a windchill of 10! This has got to be one of the coldest daytime temperatures in recorded history here. I know it won't set a record high maximum because we were above freezing at midnight but if there was a way to tell daytime temperatures this has to be up there. Amazing.

NWS has upped our precipitation tonight from 50% to 90% so clearly they don't see it ending in an hour or two. Did that just update or is that what you read Hurriguy?

It must be that the moisture is moving more to the south than to the east and southeast.

I kept looking for that update, and finally got it when I tried a Baton Rouge zip code. I am probably less than a mile across the Amite River, but my zip code still has 50% for tonight

They just haven't updated all areas yet, perhaps.

If I look at TWC radar it looks like BTR is almost done as the precip shield is moving to the south and going to be past us soon. However, the NWS radar doesn't make it look like it is almost done. Maybe because TWC radar shows larger increments than the NWS radar?

There is such a very clear snow line. I don't see how this goes on for more than 3-4 more hours. Is there any chance of this stalling maybe?

Yeah, I guess we would need this to stop dropping south as a whole. With the way our luck has been this will drop just south of us then stall out. lol

Just a city I picked out on the back end of the snow is Opelousas and they have been on the very edge of the cutoff of moisture for about an hour straight.

Remember the trough over Texas is not digging as far south anymore and is starting to nudge east some. So the moisture flow on the back end over TX/LA might not be sinking south as much as it appears as a place in Alabama or Georgia. My opinion only.

Beaumont has been on that edge of moisture too. At least an hour.

Thats the only reason I see NWS nudging our chances up for overnight. More of the WEST TO EAST flow rather what has been going on all day.

What does it mean when the sleet pellets get really big? About to transition or just part of heavier precip?

Not to jump the gun but it APPEARS that the heaviest band yet is about to set up right over Baton Rouge and hopefully remain until the end of the event. May very well hit and/or exceed expected QPF with that band alone. Easily visible on NWS radar. Check the southeast radar and you can see even more to our west all turning yellow with heavier precip. If that can move over us before this moves south then we could be jacketed for a while to make up for that dry slot.
