Starting to drizzle downtown NOLA with some light drops maybe sometimes looking like a flurry or something. But it feels colder than this morning. I'm not sure of the actual temp, but it's 33 at the airport. Shouldn't be long now as the water cools the air.

Well that came out of nowhere. Went to bed last night without a hint of snow. Got an alert at 2AM for a WWA. Schools were let out at 11 and there's about 2 inches of snow thus far. Roads are terrible.

Well, the NWS WFO in Jacksonville, FL has issued a Winter Storm Watch finally for the extreme Northeast Florida counties, which includes the Jax metro area into Thursday morning, mainly for the potential of freezing rain and sleet.

I am not surprised with this development at all. As a matter of fact, I was expecting this to happen last night.

It's just cold wet rain... temps should move up to 35'ish by late afternoon.
Things could get bad later tonight

Moderate to Heavy Sleet continues to fall in West Hattiesburg with very few small snow flurries mixed in. Sleet is starting to accumulate on the grassy areas now and has almost covered the entire roof. NWS in Jackson says that the sleet will become all snow by 3 PM, but I won't believe it until I see it. The snow line on the radar still hasn't reached north Lamar County. The temp is still holding at 27 and the dewpoint has been at a steady 22 with 81% humidity. Looks like this may end up being entirely as ice event here.

Our NWS cancelled the Ice Storm Warning and put us in a Winter Storm Warning. :) It's also 42 degrees right now...dewpoint 19 so now both are starting to fall here.

One thing of importance which has not been discussed much is the possible secondary development of a Low Pressuree area just north of the Bahamas late Wednesday into Thursday. Some of the models have had the possible development of this feature the past couple of days. There may be sufficient wrap around left over moisture behind the secondary Low Pressure area across extreme Northeast Florida into early Thursday morning, and that is why the NWS Jax ofice went ahead with the Winter Storm Watch to be posted. Very interesting here in these parts and will be monitored very closely.
