36 and a cold rain here on the MS coast ( Bay St Louis ).......sigh! If I remember correctly, we were supposed to be colder than this...( 31 )? No evaporative cooling from the rain band that just moved through. As a matter of fact, we rose from a low of 34. Off to work I go.....sigh!

Looking at current conditions, everyone still think the moisture will last to 6:00pm in BTR?

Check out the second low in the east Pacific. It's moving very close to and in tandem with the Baja low. I gotta believe this thing will also be a player, although I do not recall any mention of it? Maybe it will fuel the Baja low into a stronger system and an overall longer lasting event? http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/tpac/flash-wv.html

Has the wave over Mexico turned more east than expected? Or am I still sleepy?

Does anyone thing the overall field of moisture is moving south too fast? I mean BTR looking like a bust if the moisture keeps sinking this fast. Opinions?

Tweet from NWS Mobile

Light freezing rain and sleet is now occurring at the NWS office in West Mobile. Already some slight ice accumulation on automobiles.

We are in the middle of a heavy sleet storm. Freezing rain from earlier has transitioned to all sleet. Come on, snow line!

Taking a look at the WV loop, the shortwave is still moving eastward across the Northern portions of Mexico. Another feature is the base of the deep upper level trough now moving across extreme Northern Texas. Impressive jet streak from southern TX east- northeast to off the DELMARVA region.

Hard to say, and it's also hard to say what, if anything, forms behind it. Best I could tell from some of the morning model runs was that the baja low would enhance potential snow and ice in the Gulf of Mexico (as a secondary burst) and possibly to points further east. Some of the models (radar based and globals) they showed on tv last night didn't really have much in New Orleans after 4:00pm, and even then, it was all rain before. I tend to discount the outliers, but they were of note. As I mentioned yesterday on some thread here, winter storms for the Gulf Coast are near next to impossible to forecast - particularly for specific locations. You think you're under the gun and get nothing, or you think you might get a little sleet and end up with 3 inches of snow. It's a lot different from other parts of the country, as there is generally much historical precedent. Not so much down here. Best thing is just wait and watch and don't get your hopes up too high or too low. What you'll get, you'll get. And in the end, you can probably drive 50 miles in any random direction and see what you wanted, if you don't get it where you are.
