Any chance that snow is going to head towards Lafayette, Baton Rouge, etc? It seems to want to head southeast but it isn't making a lot of progress as a whole, maybe because there is dry air killing it off in our area?

Yes the precip is encountering dry air it appears, slowing the progress towards Baton Rouge. Hopefully it will overcome the dry air and make some progress.

Dry air is hampering the eastern progress, but Baton Rouge to New Orleans also seem to be in a dry slot between light snow to the north and rain over the gulf. McComb, MS has been reporting light snow for hours and Hattiesburg had some the past hour. Looks like Baton Rouge may be about to get in on the act though.

I am not counting on anything. I said I would be happy with school being canceled and it was so anything else is just gravy and will be so light that it won't accumulate, anyway.

I don't know bigb. The snow to the north of us is ever so slowly moving s/se while the mess in Texas is trying to move east. Could end up being surprised in the morning. Dew points have actually risen to 30 the past few hours and humidity is 83% So doesn't seem like its to dry. For comparison the areas in tx that have been getting snow are in the upper 20's to low 30's with humidity ranging from 75%-90%

A friend claims he is seeing a few flurries in Baton Rouge. I went out and didn't see any but he swears it is a few flurries here and there. Maybe we will get lucky but again, not counting on it.

Light snow falling here in Kaplan, in Vermilion Parish. Wind is awfully strong. Heard there was light snow falling in New Iberia also.

I just came in from taking the dogs out and felt nothing but cold and wind  nothing to be seen down here, even if there were flurries the wind so blowing so hard wouldn't be able to see anything. Still hoping for a little something.

Wind is strong here too, but I can see the snow flurries blowing around in the street light.

I went out and was able to spot a few flurries or sleet pellets. The wind is strong so I had to go on the side of the house and even then I had to hold up a flashlight and watch very closely. I am talking one every 30 seconds or so.

It's snowing pretty steady in Denham Springs - mostly light, but there are some big flakes mixed in.

Coming down better now. Mostly sleet so it is easy to hear. Probably will change to all snow rather quickly.

Well with all these reports had to go out and see for myself. Sure enough sleet/snow mix coming down. Not sticking to anything but enough to see easily. Good enough for me. now warming up and going to bed and hopefully waking up to an inch or so on the ground 8-)

Now I have to stay up even longer. A friend, who had the sleet first now has a video of pretty decent snow (decent for us). So I assume/hope that is coming our way next. Sometimes it takes a while for the sleet to change over.

Definitely more snow mixing in now. It was maybe 20/80 (snow/sleet) earlier and now I would say it is 60/40 (snow/sleet). Gonna go back out in another few minutes to check the progress. If we can get a decent burst for long enough it might be enough to get a few patches of grass white and some rooftops, maybe? Now I am getting greedy, aren't I? haha

Seems to be back to mostly sleet and quite light. Maybe the burst of more snow came because of heavier precip for a short while? Unless some of that stuff comes to us from the West then this was our big hoorah I guess?

Here in Baton Rouge it appears the precip started as snow and now is a sleet/frozen drizzle. Warm nose looks hard to erode.

The radar shows snow but it is definitely freezing rain mixed with a little sleet. Good call to close the schools!

I wonder if we will get above freezing today? We were only predicted by a few models to pick up any precip at all and now it looks like we may be under light precip for a while. I am trying hard to remember but I think we were predicted to be at least partly if not mostly sunny by the afternoon. It may end up being a drizzly and cloudy day. If we were forecast to reach 40 then how much may that change things? Could end up seeing bad conditions on the roadways for most of the day. Already portions of I-10 are closing.

Hey, at least no one can point and laugh at the school districts for closing this time. It was actually warranted.
