It does happen in the Summer when a large part of the state is melting under wxmans nuclear fusion grip. My hunch for this warning is that generating and distribution systems are probably taken offline due to seasonally not being needed. This is a chill affecting almost the entire state so it's not surprising to see this happen.

Btw, we keep our thermostat at 70 and have gas heat.

C'mon be brave and knock three more degrees off that. I can guarantee you don't have the cool *cough* breeze that was coming though certain areas of this house.

So my brave and hardy Tireman4 what is yours set at????

Seriously how high do Texans turn those things???? You folks have your A/C going 24/7 in the summer without this happening.

I would guess a certain household in Houston is responsible for a significant burden on the power grid.

Just got back from my sister's in Lewisville *shiver*.

We keep our (gas) heat at 64 during the day and 62 at night downstairs. Upstairs is 62 all the time - because of the heat rising it's usually closer to 67 upstairs.

Our dog used to need her hoodie on inside the house when it got cold but now she seems to be ok with the thermostat this low. Her fur has gotten thicker which is good when she goes outside to do zoomies! She wears the hoodie for walks if it's cold - below 45 or so.

Summer is 72-73.

We keep our heat on about 68 in the winter, when needed. It spends plenty of days/weeks not on or even on AC if we get into the 70s. I am usually a little chilly with it on 68 BUT if I put it any higher than that, I find it gets too stuffy. In the summer we keep it on 69 and the AC never stops running from April to October. Needless to say, our electric bill is much nicer in the winter months.

C'mon weatherdude! I'm talking about a legitimate, area-wide event. I remember the night in question well. That was a very minor occurrence which really only impacted portions of north and east Austin. I'm talking about a real event which impacts the entire city or metro area.

It did give TeamPlayersBlue though quite the experience as he tried to commute home that night to H-town from Austin.

Ahhh, ok: I "hear" ya.'

Yeah, in that case, it has been a while since we had a metropolitan/region-wide type, crippling snow/ice weather event. We are definitely statistically OVERDUE for one or more of those! :ggreen: :froze:

Well, the cold has been nice but a quick warm up is on the way. Anything interesting in the model world? Bob Rose on his blog this afternoon mentioned to keep an eye on January 17 for the next arctic front. We have had the ice, many cold days and here in North Texas some chances of rain in the coming days. Now we just need moisture and cold to meet, shake hands and work together as a team for the rest of winter!!!

Hey Rgv20, I see that snow on the radar entering Texas from Mexico. Hope you get a nice surprise down there.

You folks *rarely* post cool pics like this so for those of us, from elsewhere, that never see this:
Here is an impressive photo of the leading edge of the arctic cold front from when it was pushing through South Texas Sunday, between Freer and Laredo. Photo credit goes to Steve Brast via Bill Read. #txwx

So is it going to be another :cold: night down there tonight? :D

:uarrow: :uarrow: For us, yes it is going to be another cold night for us. You, on the other hand would probably consider it to be tank top weather. :froze: :cold: Expecting teens and low 20s in SE TX.

Are you sending that towards SE TX? The ULL that is generating that is expected to weaken, but it doesn't appear to be to me. We shall see if it gets this far and if it does if it can break through our very dry air.
Meanwhile, I'm starting to hear/see talk of the GFS showing snow for SE TX and S LA around Jan. 18. Way too far out to speculate, but gives us something to talk about once we can't complain about this cold. :cheesy:

you're talking to the wrong person, sweetheart. i wear shorts and a tee-shirt outside until it gets down into the 20s. my wife is the one who complains if the temperature drops below 72 in the house. i'm sitting here with the window open right now because i know i will be sweating my ass off once i head into the bedroom in a little bit.
