I'm pretty sure that wxman57 talked late last week about the fog threat in the Houston area. IIRC, he said it could be substantial later in the week, especially when the return flow from the Gulf really gets going.

No. Not tonight. Any SE flow will be weak and shallow (not off the warmer deepwater areas). It may be enough to slow down radiational cooling but certainly not enough for any signifiant fog event.

And based on latest guidance, the fog later this week may not be as bad as I thought earlier, as another cold front may move through Saturday morning, drying us out.

Just went out and checked my faucets which had covers on them. They are ok but tonight I may wrap the covers in towels. Can't believe how many neighbors don't have any cover on theirs. My hands are cold even with gloves, time for a thaw.

Also, my new weather center indicated 30.68 on the barometer (relative) whens the last time we had pressures that high? May not see that for a while. The data at SLS seems to be the same so its accurate. Crazy

We have an exterior faucet on the north side of our house where a cover doesn't matter. It shares a wall with our garage so it gets no internal heat. In Icemagaddeon, it froze with a cover and today it's froze without a cover. I assume it's froze because no water comes out when I turn the handle. Ours is a new house still under warranty so I need to get the homebuilder to figure this out before it costs me $$ with a busted pipe.

Dewpoint is a flat 10F and still dropping. May be a perfect scenario, clouds keep in the cold, and leave around sunset. That would get us to high teens possibly.

Put a faucet cover, AND wrapped a towel AROUND the faucet cover on the north facing wall of the house. In 2011, there was just the faucet cover on it, and the faucet still froze. Everything flowing this morning. We'll see what happens tonight. I may just put a slow drip on it. Wrapped a towel on the southeast facing faucet cover. Also opened up my sink cupboards last night, which are adjacent to the outside wall of the house. Everything fine. I may drip those too! :cold: I put thinsulating blankets over a couple of my large Sagos out in front. They survived down to 17 degrees back in 2011. Fronds turned beige/brown, but new growth came back in May of that year. It's not covering the bottom of them, so they're partially protected from the "Arctic." Was hoping to save the fronds for company for a birthday party in a couple weeks. We'll see. Anyway.

I may just drip everything and pay the extra water bill, which would be less than fixing busted pipes.

If it is this cold, it needs to SNOW in my humble opinion. :froze:

Guess I should name my weather center. I agree, I'd much rather have the snow than busted pipes and left on irrigation systems causing accidents!

We're still sitting 30 degrees in downtown Austin. Progged high is 35 which was adjusted earlier this morning as the progged high from the overnight crew was upper 30s. We'll be lucky to get above freezing obviously. Kinda interesting in that within five days, none of the models I know showed high temps this low in Austin.

Wow, computer models underestimating cold air advection in Texas ... imagine that.

Just looking at the infrared you would think SOMETHING would fall out of the sky with these clouds coming in. From the looks of it, i dont think the high will clear it all out. Its just marching northward. Any chance of a surprise here experts?

Also, i currently have 38.3F here in SL. Ive started to notice the temp spikes when the sun peaks out. Any idea how to fix this guys? At SLS it says its 34F and on wunderground its saying 35F in my area. Progged for 40F and we wont make it there.

With dewpoint in the mid to upper single digits, enjoy whatever virga you may see aloft. It is way too dry at the surface for anything to make it below 10,000 feet.

Looking at 31.3° here in Bellville, dew point of 9°, and cloud cover, at 1:45. Progged to make it to 38, don't think that's going to happen.

It is still hovering at 32-33 here in Baton Rouge. I bet we get to 34-35 before it goes back down. Going to be a lot of hours below freezing with just those 2-3 hours of so slightly above.

Oh, I'm sure you'll probably get something. Everybody in this state gets something except for me and my Austin peeps. We get the shaft every time. :(

Going on three years now without even a freezing drizzle storm or any type of winter weather event. Last one was early February 2011 with less than an inch of combined snow/sleet/freezing drizzle.

That Omega block which aggiecutter placed on Austin is impenetrable.

Would it not be something if the moisture from the south would come in just as the high is sliding East and give us all something to rave about....:)

Yep. Exactly how I feel. That just means we should be due for a big storm sometime soon.
