Go back to the fall thread. There was various discussion about winter storms crossing the southern plains and the nature of these shallow air masses. We were all talking about a significant winter storm in better light starting about last Wednesday. Between page 70-75 is a good place to start!

Maybe I can swing a few of you folks up in the Dallas area over to my side after today. See? Cold is bad! Warm is good!

Was listening to a news story on the radio while driving to work this morning. The reporter said that ski resorts in some parts of the Rockies were reporting record snow for so early in the season. One place has already recorded 7 ft of snow - more than a typical season. In fact, it's the heaviest snow in 30 years! And I thought, hmm, 30 years ago, that was - 1983! I lived through one 1983 (and 1989) and don't want to go through another like that.

The party has just begun! Just think ... we have three more months of "potential" for more winter weather.

While we're on the subject of patterns and I'm comfortably at home enjoying the warm fire lets discuss some potentials. I'm going to leave the disturbances next few days to Portastorm to analyze. Sometimes these little things do their own thing!

As for the longer term, the latest daily SOI's have gone negative not a true crash but they are nonetheless and there is a burst of convection to the south of Hawaii. The PV and coldest air in the hemisphere continues to reside over North America and stay that way for as far as the eye can see. Wavelengths are becoming longer and we're likely to see less ups and down and settle into a steady cold regime, as well the air masses will get deeper.

Believe it or not the SST's below Alaska are getting even WARMER! I think wxman57 may be trying to warm up the wrong place for his liking. The EPO region is going to feed more ridges and as we have seen the models overall have performed poorly regarding the cold and keeps trying to bring a gulf of alaska trough 7+ days out which never verifies and continuously replaced by ridges. The train of potential storms persists (refer to euro), lots of chitter chatter to be had.

We have a ski trip planned right after Christmas :D

I am much more comfortable in cold weather. Give me 4 months of sub 50 and I'll be happy. I have to deal with hell from May to late September.

Did you forget the 42 days straight of 100+?! Or the 70+ days total?! 110? Drought killing your trees?!?! This is nothing compared to what his powers can do. Do not give in to the Dark Lord of Summer as Tireman4 likes to say.

Shoot, only 42? I hate cold summers! I'd take 120F over today any day of the week/year. I can tell I'm going to hate this winter... :thermo:

Latest 18Z NAM is slightly wetter with the Saturday into Sunday system. Most if the moisture is along and north of the Red River, as well as in west Texas; however, it'll be something to keep an eye on.

nope i didnt forget about those 120 days. you can water in a drought and save trees :P id rather deal with 10 days straight of a heat wave than all of this

I'm not seeing wetter across TX in the 18Z NAM. Side-by-side comparison and the 18Z is a bit drier over Texas than the 12Z.

Looking at the soundings across southern and central Oklahoma, the moisture is much greater through 600-450mb. Also, it looks like the twisterdata QPF is slightly greater across Oklahoma as well.

Iced up solar panels are useless. It took all the sea salt from the kitchen and an hour of chiseling to remove the ice. Next time, some RainX and maybe a sheet.\
Oncor said 5 AM tomorrow, but power came on around 1 PM. What a surprise.
