AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
1006 AM CST TUE NOV 26 2013
.UPDATE...
SEE MORNING UPDATE.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
12Z DATA SHOWS THE UPPER LEVEL TROUGH AXIS STILL TO THE WEST WITH
SOME WEAK DIVERGENCE NOTED OVER EAST TEXAS. MOISTURE STILL LOOKS
RATHER PLENTIFUL AT 850 AND 700 MB. THE FREEZING LINE AT 850 MB
EXTENDS ACROSS THE WESTERN HALF OF SE TX. SHORT TERM GUIDANCE
SUGGESTS THAT MSTR WILL LINGER A BIT LONGER THAN EXPECTED
YESTERDAY AND FORCING FROM THE UPPER TROUGH SHOULD CONTINUE TO
FOSTER PERIODS OF LIGHT RAIN THROUGH EARLY AFTN. WILL BUMP POPS TO
HIGH END CHANCE FOR THE EASTERN HALF OF THE CWA. RAP AND 12Z NAM
12 SOUNDINGS SUGGEST SOME POTENTIAL FOR WINTER PRECIP OVER THE NE
QUARTER OF THE CWA. SOUNDINGS LOOK COLD ENOUGH FOR SNOW AROUND 18Z
FROM CROCKETT TO LIVINGSTON. NOT SURE HOW COLD MID LEVEL AIR WILL
BE BUT ADDED A RAIN/SNOW MIX FOR THE NE PART OF THE AREA. SURFACE
TEMPS WILL REMAIN TOO WARM FOR ANYTHING TO ACCUMULATE. NEW ZONES
OUT BY 1030 AM. 43

Moisture shield is building into SE Tx, expanding to the south. Could we cool down the surface temps with this precipitation? Upper air analysis say its now cooler above us.

Well, even though we didn't see ice in our part of the world, we did see almost four inches of rain at the Weatherdude Center since last Thursday night. The soil in my area can't take on any more water at the present time. But the Highland Lakes can always use the runoff, unless they're full.
Looking forward to future frozen possibilities!

I had a little over 5 inches for the weekend, am grateful but I too wish some would fall over lakes watershed. Sun is keeps peeking thru the clouds, nice to see after several days of clouds.

Just look at this analog which is VERY similar. The ULL is in a strikingly similar spot. Now every storm is different, but what is different with this storm mets? If i remember correctly, i think as of now we may be 2 degrees warmer than 2008. I think it was 39. I have 41.3 right now but the temp has been dropping

A question out there for those who are more knowledable than me on air masses. It is the "shallow" cold ones that tease us with winter precip but usually end up as rain. How likely or often do we ever get an air mass here that is a deeper cold layer?

Re: Texas Fall 2013
39f in West Houston with a very light mist that radar is not picking up. Hoping what has been reported in Bellville and Hunsville gives us a small taste in the wrap around since the ULL still hasn't gone by us and could bring the temps down further.

Re: Texas Fall 2013
Rain falling now in NW Harris County. I suspect there will be some sleet mixing in before long with the brighter echos dropping S now.
