That 175kt from JMA is wind gust not sustained

Yes I know. I was just saying 175 knots is 200 mph.

Tacloban city population 200K + very likely going to have major structural loss given the how and where the downtown area is.

I would not be chasing it in that city though a little late to move..

wind damage going be enough... but once the back side comes and the wind pushes up that bay right into the city the storm surge is not going to be good.

I don't think it will matter how far inland Haiyan is when the first visible shot becomes available; it's going to be historic regardless.

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Both JMA and JTWC have given the highest intensity of their Dvorak CI8.0 for Typhoon Haiyan. They cannot give higher unless they break the ceiling of Dvorak technique.

At it's current course, Guiuan should be in the right eyewall. The Pagasa station there should hopefully give us some interesting readings before it fails. They only just had a Doppler Radar installed earlier this year too... Can't find any working imagery online for it though at the moment.
