If 180kt is possible, it would be right now in this storm.

wow is that even entirely possible? it keeps getting better by the hour...

In theory, one can have a hypercane with winds over 400 KT, but different environmental conditions would be required.

For those interested...

My chase partner for the Gulf, Josh Morgerman is currently intercepting the storm and is located in downtown Tacloban with James Reynolds.

He is updating on his facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/iCyclone

Just chatted with him and they are hunkered down awaiting the arrival and well aware of the dangers that the cyclone poses.

Does anyone have information on the current JTWC best track data, or when the 18Z data is coming out?

I have no words to describe what I'm feeling.
It's absolutely interesting to watch a cyclone like that but it's absolutely painful to think it's heading to land.
I think I've never ever seen such a perfect storm and that's not a good thing.

It will be released after they analyses IR imagery at 1730Z. By the way, the ‘best track data’ is not the real best track data.

Sorry, but I really can't find a word or even a million of them to describe the...the...the monstrosity of this freakish tropical cyclone. Just something that will be remembered for years and years to come. May God truly be with those poor Filipinos. :(

Thanks :)
That's why I said JTWC. I'd like to know what the unofficial pressure estimate is though.

Also something to think about:

From what I understand, the Dvorak estimates don't take into account the forward speed of a storm, or at least a relatively quick forward speed. Haiyan is currently moving at 22 knots, and thus probably has higher maximum sustained winds than a typical TC. I genuinely believe 180 knots isn't out of the question.
